“Objective” Rick Leventhal Does His Part To Detract From Obama’s Success In Libya

Reported by Ellen - October 21, 2011 -

As the Los Angeles Times noted, Republicans have deliberately acted to deflect credit for the death of Muammar Gaddafi away from President Obama. The Times reported, “Sens. John McCain and Marco Rubio, who have favored strong U.S. intervention in the Libyan conflict, took it one step further Thursday, praising the efforts of Britain and France in bringing down Kadafi… Obama? He fell short in supporting the rebellion. ‘He did the right things; he just took too long to do it and didn’t do enough of it,’ Rubio said.” Well, out of Rubio’s mouth and into the supposedly objective news analysis of Fox News correspondent Rick Leventhal, as part of the supposedly “objective news” program, America Live.

Leventhal was a guest on America Live to discuss his experiences reporting from Libya. After a brief montage of some of his coverage, host Megyn Kelly’s first question was about Rubio’s comments. It’s worth noting that Rubio is about as junior a senator as you can get, having been elected in 2010 and thus having served for less than a year. But he’s a Tea Party/Fox News darling. Or at least has been up to now. As I noted in my previous post, it’s a bad omen for Rubio that a Washington Post report on his “embellishments” of the facts of his family’s emigration from Cuba made the top post on Fox Nation last night. But I don’t believe that news had broken yet when Leventhal appeared on America Live, near the 2 PM ET end of the first hour of the show.

“(Rubio’s) comments were very interesting,” Leventhal said with open enthusiasm. “There were a lot of people that echoed those sentiments while I was there. They wanted more action more quickly.”

Just saying, eh?
