Fox News Pimps Book For Catholic Lay People Without Noting Author's GOP Connection
Reported by Priscilla - October 9, 2011 -
Fox "News" is a haven for those Catholics who are persecuted and those who write books. But a new book about the expanding role of Catholic laypeople mustn't be selling too well because not only has it been promoted twice on Fox News (Fox & Friends and America's News HQ); but the author was able to pimp his book on the Fox News website. Seems like pretty sweet treatment for this average looking Catholic everyman type who just wants to encourage Catholics to do stuff for their church now that there aren't enough priests and nuns to do it. But it turns out that this deeply religious fellow isn't just your average schmuck.
He turns out that William E Simon, Jr. is the William E Simon Jr. who is the son of Nixon's and Ford's Secretary of the Treasury, William E Simon, Sr. Junior was the GOP candidate for governor of California in 2002 but was defeated by Democrat Gray Davis. He is also a pal of Rudy Giuliani's and was the director of Giuliani's 2007 exploratory committee. But neither Eric Bolling nor Kelly Wright mentioned Simon's not so stellar GOP CV. Interesting. Simon is also very wealthy and, like Fox's Peter Johnson, Jr., is a Knight of Malta.
Bolling, an exemplarary Catholic, had nothing interesting to contribute to the discussion except to assure Catholics that, despite a falling number of priests, "church life is on the rise." But Kelly Wright, an ordained minister who doesn't get anywhere near the God talk exposure that Fox's Father Jonathan Morris does, did say that if more Americans prayed they could help out the country. Anyway, go in peace, thanks be to Fox.
