Palin Threatens To Sue The Rogue Publisher And Author Joe McGinnis

Reported by Ellen - September 27, 2011 -

ABC News reports that Sarah Palin's attorney has sent a letter to Crown Publishing, publisher of Joe McGinnis' critical book about her, The Rogue, threatening to sue the company, the head of the company and McGinnis for defamation.

ABC reports:

Tiemessen (Palin's attorney) cites an email they have access to in which McGinniss writes that attorneys from Crown Publishing told him “nothing I can cite other than my own reporting rises above the level of tawdry gossip. The proof is always just around the corner, but that is a corner nobody has been able to turn” and that McGinniss “ran out of time” to sufficiently source the book

The email Tiemessen cites is apparently the one published by Andrew Breitbart's Big Government site (without explanation as to how he obtained it). But read in its full context, it's clear that McGinnis is explaining his somewhat cynical view of his publisher's legal department to a blogger whose work is not credible enough for McGinnis to use.

Undoubtedly, Palin's rabid fans will find this enough to acquit her and convict McGinnis (if they haven't already). But to the larger public, with whom she's not very popular, and in a court of law where there's a higher burden of proof for a public figure and considering that McGinnis has already made it clear the publishers' attorneys have vetted the book - all I can say is, good luck with that, Governor.

Anyone want to bet she quits this lawsuit or threat of one?
