O’Reilly Uses The Factor To Promote His New Book

Reported by Ellen - September 27, 2011 -

As I recently posted, Bill O’Reilly has a new book out that he’s promoting. It’s to be expected he’d go on a variety of television and radio shows to promote it. But to use his own news show to promote it? Well, that takes “synergy” to a new level, don’t you think?

O’Reilly’s book (not published by News Corp.), is about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The book just happens to be scheduled for release today and last night, he just happened to make his Talking Points segment about Lincoln – and the book.

O’Reilly opened the segment by announcing that the topic would be, “Abraham Lincoln and the next president of the United States.”

After noting the shaky economy, O’Reilly said, “What the country needs right now is dramatic leadership. Enter Abraham Lincoln.”

And O’Reilly’s book. As a graphic of the book immediately filled the screen, he added, “As you may know, my new book, Killing Lincoln, comes out tomorrow. It is a day-by-day micro look at what Lincoln, the greatest American president, went through during the last two weeks of his life. I wrote the book so that Americans would understand the tremendous sacrifices President Lincoln made for his country and the amount of personal suffering he went through in order to keep the union together. Simply put, we need another Abraham Lincoln right now.”

After discussing the divisions in this country and likening them to the divisions prior to the Civil War, O’Reilly happened to mention that he proved in the book that Lincoln knew he was going to be assassinated.

“Every American should know the true story of President Lincoln,” O’Reilly continued. “It should be widely discussed because today in America, only strong leadership will bring this country back. Abraham Lincoln’s example should lead the way.”

With a little help from O’Reilly’s book, of course.

But the promos didn’t stop there. In the following segment, about whether or not President Obama is a strong leader (like Lincoln was), guest Juan Williams delayed answering the question in order to give his own plug for O’Reilly’s book. Williams compared it to O’Reilly’s previous books and gushed, “This is the one I couldn’t put down… It’s tremendous.”

During the mail segment, O'Reilly also happened to select one that mentioned the book.
