What A Coincidence! Fox News Spawns “Regulation Nation” Just As GOP Launches Push For Rollbacks

Reported by Ellen - September 14, 2011 -

AP reported late last month, “The House Republican agenda this fall will focus on repealing environmental and labor regulations that GOP lawmakers say are driving up the cost of doing business and discouraging employers from hiring new workers.” (H/T Media Matters) And lo and behold… Fox News has devoted this week to "expos(ing) how excessive laws are drowning American businesses."

As the video below shows, Fox News didn’t even try to pretend they don’t have a point of view – and one that just happens to coincide with that of the House Republicans.

Media Matters noted that there is indeed another side. None other than the Wall Street Journal reported, “The main reason U.S. companies are reluctant to step up hiring is scant demand, rather than uncertainty over government policies, according to a majority of economists in a new Wall Street Journal survey.”

Media Matters also pointed out that surveys show that business owners do not feel that regulations are stifling them. In fact, a survey of small business owners found that many welcome regulations.

But there are also actual costs to deregulation. Mark at NewsCorpse wrote, "The effects of these proposals will serve only to produce dirtier air and water, more hazardous working conditions, and astronomical leaps in costs related to health care."
