Gretchen Carlson Suggests That Serena Williams Is Racist?

Reported by Priscilla - September 12, 2011 -

As shown by the poll findings of the Brookings report, Fox News viewers are more likely than viewers of other media to believe that discrimination against whites by blacks is as bad as discrimination to blacks by whites. That Fox News aids and abets this meme was shown on this morning's Fox & Friends during a discussion of tennis star Serena Williams' recent outburst at the US Open during which she called the line judge a "hater." While not suggesting that Serena Williams discriminated against a white person, Fox Friends Gretchen Carlson did suggest that Williams' invective against a white line judge might have had a "racial undertone." Apparently, Gretchen holds to the school of bizarro right wing thought that when a black person accuses a white person of racism, they are being racist. (See Greg Gutfeld's screed against Naomi Campbell). The thing is we don't know what Williams meant by "hater." But Gretchen Carlson thinks she does.

The curvy couch crew discussed how the kind of unprofessional behavior exhibited by Williams was also seen by other tennis stars who were noted for their temper tantrums. Perky blonde former Miss America, Gretchen Carlson talked about how Williams is a member of the "the entitled generation" (hmmm, "entitlement" - do I hear a dog whistle?) and then asked if there was a "racial undertone" to Williams outburst. Funny, as noted by the guys, there have been numerous other examples of this kind of behavior by other tennis stars; but, as far as I know, they haven't been cited by Fox & Friends. Oh, right. Those players were white and that might not have fit with the meme of racist black folks - a meme that has, as detailed in the Brookings report, born Fox fruit. Obviously, some Fox fans took the lesson about what Gretch considers "uppity" behavior to heart. On the Fox Nation (talk about racist haters!) thread (and you know there would be one!) about Williams, the comments about Williams being a spoiled minority and a racist are starting to roll in!

Comment: Gretchen Carlson provides us with a great example of what goes into producing the types of responses seen in the Brookings study. But if "hater" means "racist," we just might be talking about Fox News and specifically sweet, lil Gretchen Carlson!
