Fox Nation Promoting Obama Impeachment Just "To Tie Things Up"

Reported by Ellen - August 10, 2011 -

It was probably only a matter of time. The headline on today's Fox Nation digest is GOP Rep: Obama Impeachment 'Needs to Happen.' But when you look at the actual article, that GOP Congressman admits there's no grounds for any impeachment, he just thinks it's a good idea "to tie things up." What Fox Nation forgot to mention is that the original article they took that comment from was really about an unhappy group of Burgess' Tea Party constituents.

Fox Nation's post reads as follows:

Hours after the Dow Jones industrial average closed down more than 600 points Monday, U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Lewisville, heard from local conservatives who were unhappy that he supported legislation that many believed led to the calamitous day on Wall Street … When one attendee suggested that the House push for impeachment proceedings against President Barack Obama to obstruct the president from pushing his agenda, Burgess was receptive. "It needs to happen, and I agree with you it would tie things up," Burgess said. "No question about that." When asked about the comment later, Burgess said he wasn't sure whether the proper charges to bring up articles of impeachment against Obama were there, but he didn't rule out pursuing such a course. "We need to tie things up," Burgess said. "The longer we allow the damage to continue unchecked, the worse things are going to be for us."

Fox Nation picked up that post from an article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. If you click through to read the actual article, it has quite a different focus. That article is called Burgess Meets With Unhappy Tea Party Group. There are nine paragraphs (after the opener, which Fox Nation quoted) discussing how unhappy Burgess' Tea Party constituents were with him.

Yet Fox News overlooked most of the criticisms of a Republican lawmaker to push what even he admitted is a baseless effort to impeach a Democratic president - just to "tie things up."
