NOW Discredits Fox News Meme That Feminists Ignore Sexism Directed Towards Conservative Women

Reported by Priscilla - August 9, 2011 -

Fox knights in dull armor, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Greg Gutfeld are chivalric defenders of the virtues of conservative women. After Bill Maher made some "off color" comments about two sainted Republican women, Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann, there were howls of indignation from the guys who have no problem attacking evil, librul women with the same kind of sexist remarks that Bill Maher was accused of making. Some of the indignation was directed towards feminists - particularly the National Organization for Women which was accused of being oblivious about sexism directed at right wing women. But in the future, the Fox fellows might want to curb their enthusiasm about bashing feminists because NOW has spoken out, in no uncertain terms, about the recent Newsweek cover which has a very unflattering photo of Ms. Bachmann. Fox Nation actually has a thread about it. Jedidiah Bila mentioned it on last night's Sean Hannity after which Monica Crowley and Mark Steyn (filling in for Hannity) proceeded to trash liberal feminists. What's that saying about "the more things change..." Wonder if O'Reilly, Hannity, and Gutfeld will give credit where it's due? I'm not holding my breath.

Terry O'Neill, the president of NOW states that the cover is "sexist" and that “Casting her in that expression and then adding ‘The Queen of Rage’ I think [it is]. Gloria Steinem has a very simple test: If this were done to a man or would it ever be done to a man – has it ever been done to a man? Surely this has never been done to a man.”

“The main reason why we would stand up for Michele Bachmann and defend her against these kind of misogynistic attacks is we want women to run for office. Of course my job is to defeat Michele Bachmann and I intend to do so. But good women will not run for office if Newsweek magazine can do this to such a prominent politician and get away with it

So the next time that Bill O'Reilly et al. pontificate about how feminists don't defend conservative women from sexist attacks they should STFU because it isn't true - not that they care....
