Jon Stewart Destroys Chris Wallace’s Rebuttal Of Fox News Fairness and Balance

Reported by Ellen - June 28, 2011 -

Ding, ding, ding! The latest round in Jon Stewart vs. Fox News was on The Daily Show last night (6/27/11) and the clear winner was… Stewart. In his inimitable way he destroyed Chris Wallace’s most recent laughable defense of Fox News. Then Stewart summed up Fox’s operating principle in one of the best, most succinct analyses I’ve heard ever. “That narrative of conservative victimization is the true genius of what Fox News has accomplished,” Stewart began.

Here’s how Stewart explained the rest of it:

Any editorial judgment in news or schools or movies that doesn’t favor the conservative view is elitism and it’s evidence of liberal bias whereas any editorial judgment that favors the conservative view is evidence merely of fairness - and done to protect them from liberal bias. And if you criticize Fox for this game, guess what that’s evidence of? How right they are about how persecuted (they are). It is air-tighter than an otter’s anus… They can’t lose.

And then Stewart moved in for the closing punch line: "But you know what this whole victim thing makes Fox?” As an answer, Stewart played a clip of Chris Wallace saying to Bill O’Reilly (albeit about the Obama administration), “They are the biggest bunch of crybabies I have dealt with in my 30 years in Washington.” Stewart gave one of his trademark looks as he nodded in agreement to seal the deal.

Right on target – and funny as heck – as usual.
