Too Big A Cheering Crowd? Fox News Skips Obama's Ireland Speech

Reported by Ellen - May 23, 2011 -

President Obama received what CNN aptly described as a "rock star reception" in Ireland earlier today. Yet, for some strange reason, Fox News decided not to broadcast most of his speech (though it was available online). As TVNewser noted, "CNN and MSNBC covered the speech live, while Fox News chose to focus on other subjects." UPDATED with crowd photo. UPDATED with video from our own Pegleg Peggy.

The video, below, from CNN gives a flavor of Obama's welcome. You can get a better idea of the size and enthusiasm of the crowd at the speech from the C-Span video here which is not embeddable. The White House says they'll have embeddable video sometime this week.

UPDATE 1: I got this photo from the White House which gives an idea of how big the crowd was. Official caption: Thousands of people gather at College Green in Dublin, Ireland, to welcome President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, May 23, 2011. UPDATE 2: News Hounds regular Pegleg Peggy was actually at the speech and in front. She was kind enough to pass along the video below which shows how wildly enthusiastic the crowd was.
