More Evidence Fox News Throwing Gingrich Under The Bus

Reported by Ellen - May 18, 2011 -

I've posted before about Fox News dissing Gingrich. Last night, there was further proof. Ordinarily, when a high-profile Republican gets in trouble, he goes on Hannity for political rehab. But Gingrich got bumped up an hour later, to the last show of the night, On The Record for his rehab session. Even worse, Bill O'Reilly showed a clip of a potential Iowa voter calling Gingrich an embarrassment during the Talking Points segment that opens The O'Reilly Factor each night.

In a segment called, The Mighty Are Falling, O'Reilly went through the woes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and IMF's Dominique Strauss-Kahn before adding, "but the most important story, the most important, we think, in the mighty-have-fallen category is Newt Gingrich."

After explaining how Gingrich's comments have gotten him in trouble with "his core support group and many inside the Republican Party," O'Reilly aired a clip of Gingrich being told by a man, presumably a potential Republican primary voter, in Iowa that what he "did to Paul Ryan was unforgiveable... You're an embarrassment to our party. Why don't you get out before you make a bigger fool of yourself."

Believe me, it's not common for Fox News to showcase that sort of thing when it's someone they like under the gun. Even after Donald Trump was sinking in the polls and had pulled out of the race, Fox News was doing its part to burnish his image.

Gingrich may be able to dismiss the comments of the gentleman as an anomaly. But Fox News' attitude is a whole 'nother thing.
