Fox News Homo Hating Cal Thomas Gets "Media Excellence" Award - Seriously?!
Reported by Priscilla - May 17, 2011 -
What can I say? Brent Bozell's "Media Research Center" presented the "William F Buckley Jr. Award for Media Excellence" to one of Fox News' stable of homophobic right wingers. Yup, Cal Thomas was given an award named for a conservative who would have considered the mouth breathing vitriol of today's right wingers rather gauche and whose continental ways would be considered downright seditious by today's right wing mouth breathers. And given Cal Thomas' homophobia and journalistic bible thumping, he would definitely not have been comfortable with yesterday's more urbane fiscal conservatives who believed that moralistic bible thumping and whining about Christian persecution (one of Cal's specialties) was just so outré.
Cal Thomas is a regular on Fox News Watch which is a program that was, when journalist and author Eric Burns hosted it, one of the best panel discussions on the media; but now, under the stewardship of right wing tool (whoops, moderator), Jon Scott, it has become yet another propaganda vehicle of Fox "News." There does seem to be a relationship (but strictly a Christian chaste and heterosexual one) between Fox and the Media Research Center founder Brent Bozell - an erstwhile and very Christian conservative who monitors evil librul influence in the media including "teenage temptresses," the "gay agenda" and shows like "Family Guy" that are, according to MRC founder, Buckley's nephew Brent Bozell, destroying the very fabric of American family life. On last Saturday's Fox News Watch, the aforementioned Scott reported that Thomas received an award from the Media Research Center, a "watchdog organization highlighting media bias." Stop right here: Bozell's conservative acolytes over at Bozell's site "Newsbusters" (also ferreting out evil librul bias in everything from the mainstream media to obscure blogs) are always braying about how evil librul media outlets never identify groups/politicians as liberal. Scott didn't modify "Media Research Center" with the adjective "conservative." Shame, shame, Jon Scott. But ya kinda got the gist when Scott referenced the MRC's "Dishoner Awards for liberal media bias." Scott said that Thomas was honored for his "fair and balanced reporting." OH, stop, my sides are splitting. Here's some "fair and balanced" commentary:
"The gays-in-the-military and gay-marriage issues are part of a broader attempt by liberals to restructure society. Social activists despise biblical morality (which heterosexuals could use a little more, too), traditional values that have been proved to work when tried and numerous other cultural mores."
And this: “The NY Times is a wholly owned subsidiary of the gay rights movement. Vin Sulzberger is the publisher. Day after day there are stories, columns, editiorials on the entertainment page, on the business page, on the front page pushing a pro gay rights agenda. That’s just a fact, an observable, provable fact.” (Really?)
Scott showed video of Brent Bozell presenting, in his best nasal tone (hardly the basso profundo of his famous uncle!) the "honor" to Thomas who then wowed the crowd with a story about his humble journalistic beginnings.
RE the Media Research Awards: They are given to evil medial libruls for their biased commentary. This year, awards were given to Keith Olbermann, Ed Schultz, and Tavis Smiley for comments deemed biased by the MRC gang including Sean Hannity. "Standing In" for winners were these paragons of sense and sensibility (just kidding) Erick Erickson of Editor RedState.com, Jenny Beth Martin and Mark Meckler, founders of the Tea Party Patriots, Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips, Congressman Steve King, Republican of Iowa, and Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli. Presenters included were the ever fair and balanced Ann Coulter and Neal Boortz. "As a picture of each nominee was displayed, audience members were asked to hoot, cheer, applaud and use noisemakers to express their opinion on which quote deserved the Quote of the Year designation as the worst bias since the MRC’s last DisHonors Awards in early 2009" (What is this - an award show or the Rocky Horror picture show!)
Anyway, if Media Matters did an award show for right wing bias on Fox News, there would certainly be a wealth of material.
But congrats to Cal for his MRC Award because one thing's fer sure - he'll never win a Pullitzer.
