Brave New Foundation Wants To Know: What Would You Rename The David H. Koch Theater In Lincoln Center?

Reported by Ellen - May 17, 2011 -

Our friends at Brave New Foundation - with whom we remain proud to be associated - have a new video in their Koch Brothers Exposed campaign. This one features a guerrilla action at New York City's Lincoln Center in which a flashmob of New York protesters posted a sign saying, "I'm the Tea Party's wallet" next to David H. Koch's name on the building that houses the New York City Ballet and the New York City Opera. They also projected four of BNF's "Koch Brothers Exposed" videos on the side of the building. So filmmaker Robert Greenwald wants to know, "What would you rename the David H. Koch Theater if democracy and the arts couldn't be bought?" The winner will receive some cool BNF swag.

Greenwald wrote on the Huffington Post,

Our event is spontaneous and funny, but there's tremendous value in exposing the Koch ideology and legacy through a satirical bent. Our newest video features a choir, brass band, and New Yorkers renaming the Koch theater and sending a message to David Koch.

The brothers David and Charles Koch have a knack for getting buildings named after themselves. Everything from theaters, to sports arenas and medical buildings bear the Koch brand. So why do the brothers hide from burnishing their name on their political causes?

Brave New Foundation and middle class advocates The Other 98% teamed up to rally New Yorkers to rename the David Koch theater to something more appropriate and something that reflects his and his company's record of pollution, the Tea Party funding, and climate change denial.

Watch the video below of the protest, then submit your suggestions to rename the Koch Theater here. The winner will receive a DVD box set, a tote bag and a place on their winners page.
