Fox Nation's War On Liberals More Important Than U.S. War On Terror

Reported by Ellen - May 3, 2011 -

With the news of Bin Laden's death still fresh, with details still emerging and questions about how it will affect the U.S. war on terror all at the forefront of our national consciousness, Fox Nation, that website that boasts about its love for America, preferred to highlight its war on fellow Americans instead with a post called, Liberals Sickened by 'USA! USA!' Chants.

That's right, on the front page of Fox Nation, Bin Laden takes a back seat to a round up of posts by liberal writers arguing that a less bloodthirsty, more restrained response to Bin Laden's killing would be more in line with American ideals and interests.

But while none of the excerpts on Fox Nation suggest any hostility toward the chanters, Fox Nation's headline does its best to whip up hostility to them by suggesting liberals are sickened by displays of patriotism - even though the substance of Fox's own post says nothing of the sort.

If Fox Nation really wanted to live up to its "fair and balanced" mantra, it would have used a more honest, less hostile description of the sentiments it displayed in its own post. For example, it could have used the headline from the first posted excerpted, from Salon.com: 'USA! USA!' Is the Wrong Response and included the subtitle, Bin Laden's death is a great relief, but by cheering it we're mimicking our worst enemies.

That would not only have been fairer and more balanced but more accurate than the title's suggestion that liberals are sickened by patriotism. It's worth noting that the only time "sick" appeared on the webpage of the article was in the headline.

But on Fox Nation, the war against liberals trumps not just the war on terror but truth.
