Glenn Beck Was Against “Piss Christ” Before He Was For It

Reported by Aunty Em - April 20, 2011 -

In how many ways can Fox “News” comedy star Glenn Beck be wrong? In how short a time period are we talking about? Media Matters caught him in an interesting mistake, but one that furthers his Caliphate Conspiracy that Christians are being persecuted and only the brave and selfless Beck is willing to bring it to you. In describing the recent vandalism of “Piss Christ,” an infamous photograph of a crucifix partially submerged in the photographer’s urine, Beck said:

Have you heard this reported yet? Palm Sunday. Four people from an anti-Christian group attacked two pieces of religious artwork in France.

Twenty-two words. A mere eight seconds of airtime. More mistakes than are readily apparent. First: the original Guardian article said the exact opposite:

Controversy has followed the work ever since, but reached an unprecedented peak on Palm Sunday when it was attacked with hammers and destroyed after an "anti-blasphemy" campaign by French Catholic fundamentalists in the southern city of Avignon.

So, they were Christians and not anti-Christians. Furthermore, “Piss Christ” is in no way, shape, or form considered a religious work of art. While the artist denies it, many people consider it anti-religious and highly blasphemous.

Kudos to Media Matters’ Simon Maloy for finding the bonus hidden mistake: Looking into the Wayback Machine, Maloy discovered that just two weeks ago Beck was against “Piss Christ” before he defended it from those nasty “anti-Christian groups:”

BECK: I see that there are only three kinds of people. Three kinds of people in the world: there are dopes, you know, idiot dopes like the pastors. You know, I put them into the category of book burners, you know, these crazy people. Wasn't it great when we all got around the campfire and some burned books? No, no. So, dopes and they are usually idiots and dangerous.

Then two, there are the political dopes. You know, people, people who don't have a problem with crucifix in urine or burning the Bible, but when it comes to the Koran -- now, hang on just a second. We have Harry Reid looking into it and we have Lindsey Graham saying this. [Glenn Beck, 4/4/2011]
