Fox's Jeanine Pirro Advances World Net Daily "Birther" Myth?

Reported by Priscilla - April 17, 2011 -

As News Hounds Ellen pointed out, Fox News host Jeanine Pirro is a former judge who should "know how to recognize credible evidence and have the gumption to stand up for truth." When she recently (4/9/11) interviewed Sarah Palin, she asked Palin to opine about Donald Trump's investigation of President Obama's birth certificate. Palin said that Trump is employing researchers to find out why "President Obama would have spent $2 million dollars to not show his birth certificate." Pirro asked Palin what she thought about "the fact that the President is refusing to show his birth certificate and I've heard that number before, $2 million dollars that he's spending to not have to show the birth certificate." Not only was the former judge advancing Trump's birther allegations; but she was validating a birther lie being spread by the radical right wing, mother of all birther media, "World Net Daily."

As detailed in an article in "Salon," Donald Trump pulled the $2 million dollar figure from somewhere under his stylish coiffure during an interview on CNN. The origin for this newest twist on the conspiracy, that is part of the eschatology of the right wing who were all to willing to hurl the slings and arrows of right wing media (think Van Jones) against 9-11 "truthers," seems to be "World Net Daily." It has its roots in the fact that the Obama presidential campaign paid $1.7 million to a law firm, Perkins Coie, for post election legal matters. When an attorney brought a case alleging that Obama wasn't eligible to be president, the law firm merely sent a letter to this attorney which warned that the case was frivolous. The case was appealed to the Supreme Court which turned it down. WND takes the position that because this law firm worked on a "birther" lawsuit, all the rest of the legal expenses were related to fighting other birther suits and this just isn't true. The head of the DNC National Press Secretary told "Roll Call" that "The campaign has incurred ordinary legal expenses related to the wind-down of its operations and other legal services which all campaigns incur and which are proportional to the unprecedented size of this campaign..." In other words, combating stupid birther lawsuits was only a small part of the overall $2 million dollars spent by the Obama campaign in legal fees, most of which went to Perkins Coie.

Comment: Shouldn't former members of America's judicial branch have some gumption to stand up for the truth? Oh, right, Jeanine Pirro works for Fox "News." Nuff said!
