GOP Civil War: Karl Rove Calls Donald Trump "A Joke Candidate"
Reported by Ellen - April 16, 2011 -
I'm no fan of Karl Rove but, sadly, he has become the voice of reason on Fox News on the subject of Donald Trump. And just as I said when it was Rove v. Sarah Palin, my money is again on Rove now that it's Rove v. Donald Trump.
Rove appeared on On The Record last night (4/15/11) where he spent most of the segment criticizing President Obama and Democrats. But at about seven minutes into the discussion, host Greta Van Susteren asked Rove about whether the birther issue hurt Donald Trump. Although Van Susteren has given Trump a lot of leeway to spout his birther conspiracy theories, she has also made it pretty clear - as she did with Rove - that she does not approve.
Rove said, "He was an interesting candidate who had a business background and could have contributed to the dialogue but his full embrace of the birther issue means that he's off there in the nutty right and is now an inconsequential candidate. I'm shocked. The guy's smarter than this." Rove added he had become a "joke candidate" who would never get the nomination.
