Student Outrage Prompts Fox News To Remove Story Linking Obama To GWU Suicide

Reported by Ellen - April 14, 2011 -

George Washington University students and others were outraged over a FoxNews.com story that linked President Obama's speech at GWU yesterday to a student suicide. After a lot of blogosphere attention and an organized effort by GWU students, Fox News removed the story.

Personally, I didn't find the story half as offensive as much of what Fox News says about Obama, Democrats or liberals on just about any given day. But that's just me, apparently. The GW Hatchet reported that GWU students started a Facebook page called Hold Chernenkoff and FOX News Accountable and garnered more than 1,000 members in 10 hours.

According to a Fox News employee, who spoke on background because they were not permitted to speak in an official capacity, Fox removed the story due to student and University reaction, even though nothing in the story was factually inaccurate.

Good on them. It just goes to show that we have the power to influence what Fox News does. Let's keep using it.
