Bill Hemmer Discusses Border Report With Dreadlock Admiring Former ICE Chief Julie Myers Wood

Reported by Priscilla - February 21, 2011 -

This morning, Bill Hemmer did a segment about a recent GAO report which showed that the border is not totally under control. Obviously, the meme of an out of control border is standard fare on Fox News; but other than Bill's dramatic emphasis on the report's scary findings, the discussion between Bill and his guest was more technical than propagandistic. His guest was Julie Myers Wood, who was an Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security for Immigration and Customs Enforcement during the Bush years. You might think that she's the kind of bureaucrat who might not be the life of the party. Well think again, cuz Ms. Julie had to do some damage control after she awarded a most original costume award "to a Homeland Security Department employee who dressed in prison stripes, dreadlocks and dark makeup for a Halloween gathering at the agency.” And not only did she present the award, she posed with him. And not only did she pose with him, she ordered the destruction of the photos! In addition to being quite the party girl, Ms. Julie has some other major "junk in the trunk" which, as you probably guessed, wasn't mentioned by Hemmer who was focusing on that scary border thing...

Julie Myers Wood is the "niece of former Joint Chiefs chairman Gen. Richard B. Myers and married to U.S. attorney in Missouri John F. Wood, who was Michael Chertoff’s former top aide." As such, her appointment, by the Bush administration, was considered an exercise in "cronyism." She was also not considered qualified for the job which had specific requirements which she didn't appear to have although she did work with Ken Starr and "helped draft the office's referral to Congress on the Lewinsky investigation." During her time at ICE, she was criticized for permitting her department to "retaliate" against immigrants who spoke out for immigration reform. Her agents often did not have warrants when arrests were made. But the really juicy bit about her tenure, at ICE, was the award to the white guy in blackface dressed in a striped prison suit and sporting dreads. According to the congressional report, the dude said “I’m a Jamaican detainee from Krome — obviously, I’ve escaped" (Krone is a Miami detention facility.) The "prisoner's" remarks produced laughter; although some workers were offended. Myers Wood apologized for the incident, reassigned the worker, and ordered sensitivity training. She then ordered the party photos to be destroyed. Later, after federal law enforcement leaked information about President Obama's aunt's immigration status shortly before the election, Myers Wood resigned. And now she's appearing on Fox News as an expert on border security.

Comment: Given her history, she's so perfect for Fox "News." Ya think?!
