Fox News Apologizes For “Honest Mistake” That Wrongly Showed Ron Paul Getting Booed At CPAC

Reported by Ellen - February 17, 2011 -

I’ve gotten many emails about America’s Newsroom’s use of the wrong video when reporting on Ron Paul’s win of the presidential straw poll at CPAC last weekend. My personal opinion is that it was the result of error, not a deliberate deception, though I won’t say that Fox News’ predilection for dissing Paul didn’t leave the “fair and balanced” network with a predisposition for finding video showing an audience booing when Paul was announced the winner. In fact, just last night, Karl Rove and Bill O’Reilly wrongly argued that birthers are Ron Paul supporters while discussing a poll that showed them to be Palin supporters. But I’ll post the original video and Fox News’ apology and let you decide. Meanwhile, what happened to the network’s supposed “zero tolerance for on-screen errors” that “may result in immediate disciplinary action against those who played significant roles in the ‘mistake chain,’ and those who supervise them?” This was certainly a doozey of an “on-screen error.” Yet a statement of Fox's Senior Vice President of News Michael Clemente as well as Hemmer's words in the video suggested that a correction and an apology were the only remedies warranted.
