Breaking News: Mubarek (Not) To Step Down
Reported by Ellen - February 10, 2011 -
BBC is reporting that he "may stand down." FoxNews.com says he will do so in just a few minutes.
UPDATED: 11:18 PM
From FoxNews.com: President Hosni Mubarak will step down shortly and transfer authority to the Egyptian Higher Council of the Armed Forces, a senior Egyptian official confirmed to Fox News on Thursday.
UPDATE: Megyn Kelly just announced that another news organization is reporting that Vice President Suleiman will take over.
One thing is certain: Fox News is looking for ways to use this to attack President Obama and his administration. As I write this, Megyn Kelly is discussing with reporter James Rosen about "questions" that have arisen about the administration's handling of the crisis and that House Republicans will be investigating.
3:00 PM Update: Shep Smith now reporting that Reuters said Mubarek will NOT step down. FoxNews.com still reporting he will.
10:34 PM Update from CNN: After a tumultuous day of speculation, disappointment and then anger, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak remains the titular head of his country.
Little else is clear.
