Laura Ingraham Touts Fiction As Fact In Attacking Planned Parenthood With Lila Rose’s Hoax Video

Reported by Ellen - February 5, 2011 -

On The O’Reilly Factor last night (2/4/11), guest host Laura Ingraham touted the latest Planned Parenthood sting tapes from Lila Rose’s group Live Action. You may recall that Rose is a pal of the completely discredited and thoroughly disreputable James O’Keefe. Rose's latest attacks on Planned Parenthood (a phony pimp tries to get help with his underage sex ring) are more than a little reminiscent of the debunked ACORN tapes. We’ve even got suspicious editing and Andrew “Shirley Sherrod” Breitbart involved. But while the Planned Parenthood hoax – like the ACORN stings – involved no actual sex trafficking, Ingraham acted as though Rose and Live Action had just uncovered the real thing. Ingraham even gushed that she thought they deserved a Pulitzer for their work.

As even Ingraham acknowledged to her Planned Parenthood-supporting guest, Jane Fleming Kleeb (a News Hounds Top Dog), Planned Parenthood reported the incident to the FBI. But, Ingraham complained, “It seems like their focus was on Lila Rose and the Live Action people more than on the fact that there could have been people sex trafficking in her clinic… It just seems like the emphasis is demonizing the Lila Rose folks who, in my mind, should get the Pulitzer for this.”

Yeah, there could have been sex trafficking in the clinic but by then Planned Parenthood knew there wasn’t. On January 24, the organization issued a statement saying,

Last week, Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) alerted federal authorities to a potential multistate sex trafficking ring. Over a five day period, visitors to Planned Parenthood health centers in six states said they were seeking information from Planned Parenthood about health services Planned Parenthood could provide to underage girls who were part of a sex trafficking ring. Subsequent to alerting U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Planned Parenthood learned the identify of one of those involved and believes these visits are likely a hoax by opponents of legal abortion seeking to discredit Planned Parenthood, which delivers preventive health care and abortion services to three million women each year.

I’d love to know how many actual underage sex traffickers divulge to unfamiliar Planned Parenthood workers their criminal plans. I’ll bet those pimps are just about as prevalent as the ones that waltz into ACORN offices asking about loans to establish brothels. But just like with the ACORN scam, Fox had no problem with its host suggesting that these kind of pimps were to be expected in Planned Parenthood offices.

So who’s really demonizing whom here?

“We have little girls being sex trafficked!” Ingraham exclaimed. Except that we don’t. We have a videographer - with an anti-abortion agenda, an edited tape and some well-heeled backers - who made up an outlandish hypothetical that was soon known to be a fake.

As Ingraham and Kleeb went on to argue whether or not Live Action is working hand in hand with Republicans (although I could not find any direct GOP involvement, it’s indisputable that Rose is supported by some right-wing heavy hitters), Ingraham became more shrill and cutting. “Little girls! Little girls! …They should be shut down immediately… This is about little girls and Planned Parenthood making an enormous amount of money off of the abortion procedure and giving advice, it looks like, to underage women.”
