Sarah Palin’s Prescription For More Jobs: Cut NPR, NEA, Obamacare And Entitlements

Reported by Ellen - January 27, 2011 -

Before she made her ridiculous statement that Sputnik resulted in the collapse of the Soviet Union, Sarah Palin offered the On The Record audience last night (1/26/11) her “ideas” on how to create more jobs. She ducked the question at first but when host Greta Van Susteren returned to it, Palin answered, “We need to cut… the fluffery like NPR, the National Endowment for the Arts, those type of things, those are obvious” and went on to say that “Obamacare” and other programs should be cut, too.

Early in the interview, Van Susteren asked, “What are we going to do about jobs? Do you have an idea that’s any way different from what the president said last night (in his State of the Union address) because we’re looking for all options.”

Palin ignored the question in order to attack President Obama’s speech. “Speaking of last night, that was a tough speech to have to sit through and kind of try to stomach because the president is so off-base in his ideas on how it is that he believes government is gonna create jobs… It’s the private sector that can create the jobs.”

Then, still ignoring Van Susteren’s question, Palin coined what she obviously thought was a clever line, describing Obama's speech as “a lot of WTF moments.”

But Van Susteren, after feeding Palin another opening by saying that an improved stock market was not helping people struggling to find work, returned again to her question. “So what would you do, what should we do… what exactly would you do differently than what the president is suggesting?” It was clear she was referring to stimulating the economy and creating jobs.

Palin answered, “Stop digging this hole that we are in… exercising this deficit spending… And we do need to cut the budget, not just stall the spending spree that we have been on… We need to cut… the fluffery like NPR, the National Endowment for the Arts, those type of things, those are obvious. But we also have got to not fund Obamacare, that’s a job killer. Not fund any kind of cap and tax program… those are job killers. We’ve got to look at the entitlement programs.”

After more prodding from Van Susteren Palin did go on to talk about creating a better climate for business. But if she thought she looked like she had a clue about economic policy, she should probably reconsider – assuming she ever considered it in the first place.
