Roger Ailes Told Fox News "Tone It Down" In Wake Of Giffords Shooting

Reported by Ellen - January 10, 2011 -

I knew there had to be a reason that tonight's Hannity show dealt mostly with reporting on Gabrielle Giffords and the Arizona massacre rather than politicizing it (though Bill O'Reilly did more than his fair share - more to come on that soon). It looks like Politics Daily found the answer. In an interview with Russell Simmons in GlobalGrind today, Fox News chief Roger Ailes revealed, "I told all of our guys, shut up, tone it down, make your argument intellectually. You don’t have to do it with bombast. I hope the other side does that." Of course, it's questionable what Ailes considers "toned down" but it's good to see him trying to act at least somewhat responsibly. (H/T Antoinette)

Howard Kurtz tweeted (found via Media Matters):

Glad Roger Ailes told Fox to tone it down, but what does he mean by "the other side" should as well? Fox is on one side? Duly noted.

Great point!
