Martha MacCallum, of Fox "News," Promotes Book By Conservative Christian Author

Reported by Priscilla - December 17, 2010 -

As part of its mission as America's Christian Newsroom, Fox "News" seems to be quite amenable to promoting Christian books. Today, In addition to showcasing a book by "American Taliban" leader Jim Garlow, Fox "News" featured a Christmas book by conservative, anti-choice author Anthony DeStefano. And this isn't the first time that the "news" part of Fox pimped this guy. Last March, Martha MacCallum interviewed DeStefano, vice-chair of "Priests for Life," about his Christian book which instructed children how to pray. And now, he's back to speak with MacCallum about his newest book, a Christmas book titled "Little Star" which is about "the true meaning of Christmas." The beginning of the segment featured Christian Republican eminence grise and purveyor of America's shlockiest music Pat Boone reading a part of the book to little children. What more can I say!

MacCallum told DeStefano that "we love to bring your inspirational books which are so wonderful because they give children a sense of the true meaning of Christmas which we try to remember this time of year and make it central to everything." (Certainly "central" to Fox "News"). MacCallum cited how the story was about the star that "led the shephards and the three kings to the Baby Jesus." (As a "newsperson," shouldn't MacCallum have said something to the effect of this being the star that Christians believe led...?) Martha said that this is a "great Christmas gift" and that the book will remind children of the true meaning of Christmas.

Comment: I don't recall MacCallum having promoted Hannukah books or any other books that represent diverse cultures and religions. But then, why would she! Fox "News" seems to be directing its agitprop towards one religious demographic. DeStefano is described on one website as "advancing Christian beliefs in modern culture." He's perfect for Fox "News" which seems to be doing the same. Fox "News" - Christian fellowship and Christian gift advice. The baby Jesus must be so happy.
