Who Does Glenn Beck Fear Most? Muslims or Progressives?

Reported by Aunty Em - December 8, 2010 -

You can now add Muslims to the list of enemies that Glenn Beck has made in the last year. In my News Hounds New Year’s column, I predicted what was ahead for Glenn: He’d continue to insult one group after another until there was no one left to support him, save Rupert and Ailes, and a Dump Glenn Beck movement would coalesce. Since then more than 300 sponsors have dropped Beck and more might be in the offing after this week’s hilarious gag on The Beck Radio Drama Theater. Not that I imagined that Glenn Beck had many listeners of the Muslim faith, but after his crazy estimation of how many Islamic terrorists there are, I doubt he has any left. Yet, as fearful The Beckinator is of the Muslim Menace he neglects those closest to him—those who are prepared to kill in his name—his audience. Yet, as we learned this week, there’s a new name to add to that pantheon of Fox “News” Terrorists™.

In an attempt to kill 3 hours of airtime Beck was riffing on one of his favorite themes: That only he, The Great Beck, is covering the story that the rest of the news media has been missing. And, we should all be afraid because Socialists and Communists are working towards a violent overthrow of the ‘Merkin system. Then, according to Think Progress, he went off on a strange riff:

BECK: What is the number of Islamic terrorists? One percent? I think it’s closer to 10 percent, but the rest of the PC world will tell you ‘oh no, it’s minuscule.’ Okay, well, let’s take you at your one percent. Look at the havoc of one percent of Muslims causing on the rest of the world!

TP checked with the Pew Report and then did the math. With 1.57 billion Muslims in the world—the second most populous religion—that means that aside from Communists and Socialists, Beck is afraid of somewhere between 157 million and 1.57 million Muslims, give or take a mosque or two. How does he even get out of bed with so many scary boogiemen around?

As Mediate points out, with a screen shot even, this 10% figure was not just a number Beck pulled out of his ass on the spur of the moment. He was quoting the eminent author of “The Real America,” one Glenn Beck, who pulled that figure out of his ass in 2003. If anything you’d think that number would have increased in the 7+ years since, as America stirred up new hornet’s nests all around the world. However, only the Asshole Emeritus of Beck U, knows his history and the rest of us are mere students at his knee.

In the same Radio Show, Beck allowed that a mere 0.5% of Americans might be violent radicals. You do the math. However, it’s a much smaller number than his Muslim enemies hiding behind every Imam. However , I’m sure he meant to say those violent radicals are on the American left and not those people on the right influenced by Fox “News” generally and Glenn Beck specifically. People like Byron Williams, Richard Poplawski, and the newest name on the literal hit list, Kenneth B. Kimbley, Jr.

Never heard of him? Let Meghann M. Cuniff of The Spokesman-Review (WA) introduce you to him in a recent article titled “Self-styled militia leader pleads guilty in grenade case.”

A self-described militia leader pleaded guilty this week to federal gun charges connected to a grenade manufacturing operation at his trailer in Spirit Lake, Idaho.

Kenneth B. Kimbley Jr., 58, discussed bombing local bridges with an undercover federal agent and made threatening statements toward President Barack Obama, leading investigators last July to seize 20,000 ammunition rounds and several firearms from Kimbley’s property, where he and other suspected militia members gathered to construct grenades, according to court documents.

Kimbley, who remains in federal custody, pleaded guilty to Monday to unlawful possession of a firearm and attempt to make a firearm in violation of the National Firearms Act. He faces up to 10 years in prison when he’s sentenced Feb. 22.

Three other paragraphs stuck out like a sore O’Reilly:

Though prosecutors have emphasized his militia ties and his dislike for Obama, Kimbley “made absolutely no threats to harm anyone at anytime,” [Public Defender Kim] Deater wrote in court documents.

“In fact, everything said by Mr. Kimbley is no different than what his idol, TV commentator Glenn Beck, typically states on the air and is protected free speech.”

Deater writes that though Kimbley was “frequently baited” by an undercover agent, he and his friends “simply discussed their concerns of a communist takeover and the need to be prepared to defend themselves and the country if in fact a takeover occurred.”

Where have we heard that before? It’ll come to me.

However, Beck has stated over and over again that he’s not to blame for lone nutcases who happen to target Beck’s sworn enemies. In fact, he would probably point to the many instances he told people that violence is not the answer. Probably be right after saying that Progressives are a cancer, or just likes the Nazis, or Democratic Socialists, or Communists, or something. He keeps telling his audience that Progressives want to provoke a violent reaction—need a violent reaction—so the left will keep pushing, and pushing, and pushing until…

Well? All I know is that whatever happens will obviously be the fault of Progressives. Glenn Beck has already predicted that much and we know he’s never wrong about history. Actually, as Media Matters points out in a well-researched article "Violence is coming": Glenn Beck's long history of violent rhetoric, Beck has used Eliminationist Rhetoric dozens of times in the past few years. Including this recent radio clip in which, after some Morning Zoo antics Beck claims the left are the ones pushing violent rhetoric:

As Beck continues to insult entire religions—Judism and Islam are just the most recent examples—Fox “News” seems declines to comment, but Murdock & Aires are on record as saying Glenn’s their boy.

It would seem that for Fox “News” there is no line that cannot be crossed. If bashing entite religions outrages you, please join News Hounds in demanding that Fox News fire Beck. You can contact them at glennbeck@foxnews.com or yourcomments@foxnews.com.
