Roger Ailes Donates Fox Goodies For Ave Maria Law School Auction

Reported by Priscilla - November 29, 2010 -

Unlike in 2008, the majority of Catholics voted Republican in this recent election. Not wanting to waste a ripe opportunity to cultivate more conservatives to the cause, Fox News seems to be cultivating conservative Catholics, as evidenced by the presence of Catholic Father Jonathan Morris - the only resident clergy on Fox who does weekly Sunday sermonettes on Fox & Friends along with appearances on other programs in which he, for the most part, dispenses right wing talking points couched in Catholic dogma. The ultra right wing head of the "Catholic League," Bill Donohue, is also given a warm welcome on Fox News. The pandering to the Catholic right seems to have yielded results in a newfound, mutually satisfying friendship between Fox's Roger Ailes and the most regressive (whoops, devout ) Catholic college in the country.

Earlier this year, Roger Ailes was invited, by Ave Maria University, to participate in a panel discussion during which he bashed health care reform. Ave Maria University is a medieval Catholic village, in Florida; but instead of having quaint medieval buildings, the architecture is straight out of Disney world. This school was funded by Pizza mogul Tom Monaghan who has no problem with women choosing which toppings they want for their pizza (worst pizza evah) but when it comes to a decision about terminating a pregnancy - fagetaboutit! And it's a good thing that the young men and women, at Ave Maria, are clean teens because contraceptives are not available in the town's pharmacy. The fourth tier Ave Maria Law School just celebrated its 10th anniversary with a gala and silent auction at the Naples, Florida Ritz Carlton. Perhaps in gratitude for having had the aforementioned opportunity to spread rightwing agitprop to a receptive Catholic audience, Roger Ailes donated "An exclusive, behind the scenes tour of the set of Fox News in New York City and tickets to the Fox & Friends morning program" to the silent auction. There were two other names on the donation; but as they don't appear to be connected to Fox, I assume they might have contributed the "accommodations and meals at the prestigious and exclusive Union League Club."

And if that wasn't fabulous enough, Newt Gingrich was the keynote speaker for the gala. Gingrich, a possible presidential hopeful, has stopped (as far as we know) embracing those to whom he was not joined in holy matrimony and, after marrying (third time) his former mistress, has embraced holy mother Catholic Church. He told the Ave Maria crowd that their law school graduates will be able to replace the current, liberal, secular legal system. (Catholic Sharia?). He also said that the grads will replace the “neutral technology for the redistribution of wealth with a morally-based legal system." (Oh, joy, let's bring back the Inquisition!) But here's the clincher: "There is no such thing as a Supreme Court… Between the Executive and Legislative branches, the Judicial Branch is the weakest of the three branches." He also described the SCOTUS as "arrogant and elitist." (Even the majority conservatives?)

Anyway, just an Roger Ailes update for all you Roger Ailes fans.
