Sarah Palin Seriously Considering Running For President Palin But Won’t “Waste My Time” With Katie Couric

Reported by Ellen - November 23, 2010 -

Sean Hannity did a one-hour infomercial for Sarah Palin’s new book and her possible presidential bid last night (11/22/10). This is just the latest News Corp. effort on behalf of Palin. As Frank Rich recently noted in the New York Times, News Corp., which published her new book, is already backing Palin’s book tour – which just happens to include stops in Iowa, South Carolina and Ohio. And News Corp’s Wall Street Journal also touted her ghost-written critique of quantitative easing. Those perks are on top of the six-week infomercial known as “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” going on at TLC. Why should Palin give up all that by actually declaring? So like the canny showwoman she is, Palin strung us along with a tease that she is giving the matter “prayerful consideration” and “If there is no one whom I feel is in a position to beat Barack Obama and if I feel that I am the candidate who can beat Barack Obama, I will run.” But if she does, don’t expect her to do any talking to Katie Couric or any other “liberal media” interviews. Instead, Palin will be “out there even more” on Facebook and Twitter.

More important than considering what’s good for her family, she said, is to consider what’s good for the country. “We know we need common sense. We know we need experience in the Oval Office…”

It was laughable that Palin seemed to be arguing that she, who quit her job as governor of Alaska halfway through her first term, had the experience “we need” to be president. But it seemed to make perfect sense to Hannity who didn’t utter a peep in response.

Somewhat in answer to Karl Rove’s latest swipe at her that she needs a thicker skin, Palin said, “My family and I, (have) thick skin. We can take it… We can take what the haters say.”

And then she promptly indicated that they couldn’t. As many people know – but Hannity didn’t bring up – Palin’s daughters, Willow and Bristol, erupted in homophobic slurs and curses recently on Facebook. But rather than take any responsibility for their behavior, Palin blamed it on others saying “very, very hateful things about the family and saying mean things about her little brother, Trig.” Palin added, “Willow finally responded and she used a bad word when she responded in defense of her family and her response became national news. So that’s ridiculous.” Actually, Willow used quite a bit more than one bad word but again Hannity gave Mama Palin a pass.

Palin also revealed her thin skin when she made it clear she would not be talking to Katie Couric again. In fact, Palin’s presidential media strategy seems to consist of Facebook, Twitter and Fox News. “I would look forward to being even more open than I already am in speaking to the public. And I do that through social networks today. Every single day I’m posting something about the discourse, the debate in this country and driving a lot of that debate and I’m proud to be able to do that but as a candidate for president, if I chose to do that, absolutely, I’d be out there even more. As for doing an interview, though, with a reporter who already has such a bias against whatever it is that I would come out and say, why waste my time? … I swear to you I will not waste my time with her or him.”

But while she's hiding out from the "liberal media," Palin intends to remake it. “I want to help clean up the state that is so sorry today of journalism. And I have a communications degree.”
