Gloria Allred Likes Being Groped During Airport Pat Downs

Reported by Ellen - November 20, 2010 -

Another night of Fox News prime time, another night of demands for racial profiling in aviation security from people with no expertise in the field. It’s beginning to look like Fox News can’t find any security experts to argue one of their pet agenda items. Last night’s pseudo-experts were feminist attorney Gloria Allred and right-wing activist attorney Jay Sekulow. The discussion went along predictable lines, with Sekulow and Sean Hannity arguing for profiling and Allred as the lone person on the other side. But the pseudo-expertise reached a new low when Allred announced that she liked the pat down she had recently received at an airport because it was the first time anyone had touched her private parts “in a long time.”

If memory serves, we last saw Sekulow suggesting that President Obama should be impeached over the Joe Sestak matter -- and then walking it back without explanation. But on Hannity last night (11/19/10), Sekulow’s outrage was reserved for the TSA.

The TSA, Sekulow was now shouting, should be using profiling instead of body scanners and pat downs. Not mentioned to the "we report, you decide" network's viewers? The closest thing to a national security credential in Sekulow’s resume is his stint as a tax trial attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service.

Hannity has been in full bullyboy mode over the “outrage” of TSA bodyscans and patdowns. But you’ll have to pardon me for being more than a tad suspicious about his sincerity since this is the same guy who loved the Patriot Act and warrantless wiretapping of the Bush administration.

In his sing-song bullyboy voice, Hannity asked Allred, “You’re a renowned feminist… We’ve got pictures… Look at this! The (TSA worker) in this picture has his hand on the guy’s 'junk.' …We got this (TSA worker) right there, right on (a passenger’s) breast. Her breasts are being touched and felt… Is that acceptable to you?”

Allred said she had just gone through a scan and a pat down in an airport.

“Did they grope you? Did they touch your body parts?” Hannity asked.

“Yeah, they did,” Allred said. “It was the first time anybody touched them in a long time and, frankly, I liked it.”

Hannity couldn’t stop laughing. But “expert” Sekulow was still barking. “Let’s start using technology and our head and put in place systems that work. Right now, TSA’s incapable of doing it… Put in place profiling that makes sense!”

As the music began, Allred said she didn’t think there should be hysteria over the new system and that she didn’t think any polling had been done “on what most Americans are willing to do to be safe on an airplane."

“Expert” Sekulow said, “They want to be safe and they want to use intelligent devices.”

“Security expert” Hannity added at the end, “If we followed the Israeli method, as Jay pointed out, we’d be much safer.”

In fact, there is a poll. The majority of Americans do not think racial profiling is justified and an even bigger majority think the body scan machines should be used. But don’t hold your breath waiting to hear about that from the “fair and balanced” network.
