Fox News Gives John Bolton A Presidential Campaign Platform

Reported by Ellen - November 15, 2010 -

John Bolton has publicly expressed an interest in running for president in 2012. But while he’s thinking it over, Fox News is giving him free airtime to attack President Obama. During an appearance today on America Live, which is supposed to be part of Fox News’ “objective news programming,” Bolton was presented as a neutral analyst. The “we report, you decide” network’s viewers were not told of his presidential aspirations.

Substitute host Shannon Bream introduced Bolton, the sole guest for a review of President Obama’s recent trip to Asia, by saying, “Ambassador John Bolton, the former U.S. ambassador to the U.N. joins us now.” There was no balancing guest in either that segment or a following one. Fox News later titled the video when it was posted on FoxNews.com, Poor Marks for Obama's Trip? Amb. John Bolton rates president's performance in Asia.

Sure enough, Bolton spent the rest of the segment attacking Obama.

“The message that comes through is that the weakness of the Obama administration in terms of asserting American interests is now more and more visible.”

“Just in terms of managing the presidency, that’s a real failure.”

Far from offering any pushback to Bolton's assertions, Bream asked, “We know (Obama) polls as very popular in Europe and around the world. Is it a matter of him maybe being more popular than he is respected?” She later said she found it “interesting” that Michael Moore had told Obama it was “time to take off the pink tutu.” As Bolton broke into a wide grin, she added, “When he’s getting that kind of criticism from Michael Moore, what does that say about how he’s doing here in the U.S.?”

“It’s part of the problem he has in acting like a president… and certainly from his career background, never really having managed anything larger than a Senate office…”

“I think It’s his administration’s policies that really risk the future for the country.”
