Michelle Malkin Calls Obama’s Indonesia Trip A “Jihadi-Promoting Jaunt”

Reported by Ellen - November 11, 2010 -

Michelle Malkin visited the Hannity show last night (11/10/10) to once again demonstrate how much she loves her country by how much hate she could monger in the course of six minutes. But I think she outdid herself by describing President Obama’s trip to Indonesia as a “jihadi-promoting jaunt.” Don’t tell me she didn’t have that little soundbite prepared in advance.

It was clear from the start that Hannity was setting up an “Obama's suspiciously Muslim friendly” frame to the segment. In his introduction, Hannity distorted Obama’s comments about Israel by saying he had “attack(ed) our closest ally in the Mideast” and “ripped Israel’s plans.”

Here’s what Obama actually said, in response to the following question at a press conference (transcript via WhiteHouse.gov)

Q: “Does Israel’s advanced planning for more than a thousand new homes in Jerusalem undermine trust between the parties and undermine your peace efforts?

PRESIDENT OBAMA: I have not -- I’ve been out of town, so I’m just seeing the press reports. I have not had a full briefing on Israel’s intentions and what they’ve communicated to our administration. But this kind of activity is never helpful when it comes to peace negotiations. And I’m concerned that we’re not seeing each side made the extra effort involved to get a breakthrough that could finally create a framework for a secure Israel living side and side -- side by side in peace with a sovereign Palestine.

We’re going to keep on working on it, though, because it is in the world’s interest, it is in the interest of the people of Israel, and it is in the interest of the Palestinian people to achieve that settlement, to achieve that agreement. But each of these incremental steps can end up breaking down trust between the parties

Hannity continued, “Now, if you notice, he chose to make that statement in a country with the world’s largest Muslim population. Talk about playing to an audience.”

In case we missed the point, Hannity’s first question to Malkin was, “So the president goes with the world’s largest Muslim population, rips Israel, followed up the day after – Hillary today, Joe Biden today following up on the same thing and now Benjamin Netanyahu’s fighting back, saying, ‘Excuse me, Jerusalem is the capital of our country, Israel.’ Why would the president do that?”

Malkin, ever the sourpuss, didn’t miss either the hint or the opportunity to lay some sneering sanctimony on the audience. “Well, I think for many reasons, foremost of which is that he saw this trip as a, in essence, a jihadi promoting jaunt. And that certainly has been the message.”

Her “evidence” included the fact that Obama visited the same mosque Iran’s Ahmadinejad visited “just a couple of years ago where he called for the annihilation of Israel, denied the Holocaust and referred to every Muslim man as quote (her voice rose with extra condescension) an atomic bomb!”

Let’s see… Who else was on Hannity’s stage in the last few years? Anti-semite Andy Martin, Mel Gibson, Rev. “Most Blacks In Tennesse Are Racists” Jesse Lee Peters and, on Hannity’s radio show, was white supremacist Hal Turner (currently in jail for threatening some federal judges). Do Malkin’s regular appearances on Hannity signify her like mindedness with those folks?

Malkin continued scornfully, “A clear message was sent to the Muslim world and to jihadi-sympathizing countries and governments across this world that yes, Obama’s back in business.”

From there the two hate mongers devolved into a now-familiar litany of anti Obama talking points: Hannity saying Obama refuses to recognize America’s at war (never mind his escalation of war in Afghanistan) and Ol’ Sourpuss agreeing that “All of this lack of clarity… is rooted in his left-wing transnationalist ideology.”

She concluded the interview with a smug smile of superciliousness.
