Glenn Beck Uses His Fox News Show To Get Out The Vote Against Frank And Blumenthal

Reported by Ellen - November 2, 2010 -

Glenn Beck might as well have waved a “Vote Republican Or Else!” banner on his show yesterday as he did his part for the GOP vote effort, Beck style - meaning, of course, that instead of inspiring his viewers into voting Republican, he tried to frighten them about the consequences if they didn’t. Then, perhaps thinking it would demonstrate what a well-intentioned patriot he is, Beck trotted out a Benjamin Franklin quote and, with a soft trembling voice, suggested that if we don’t follow his (Beck’s) advice, we might not be able to “keep the Republic.”

Beck said, “Tomorrow’s gonna be a very exciting day but only if you get out and vote. You must get out and vote. You’ve had all these massive upsets that are brewing now all around the country but what amazes me most, there are still some establishment Democrats who are winning. It boggles the mind. Two in particular stand out.”

It just so happened that one of those who stood out was the Democrat favored to win in Beck’s state of Connecticut, U.S. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal. The other was Beck’s perennial target, Barney Frank. (“Are you telling me, Massachusetts, you can’t find anybody better than Barney Frank?”)

Beck pointed to a photograph Blumenthal and said, “This guy’s dangerous, I think. I really think he’s dangerous.”

After acknowledging Blumenthal’s lead in the polls, and calling him “a danger to the Republic,” Beck pleaded, “Connecticut, come to your senses… I don’t care if it’s Brutus the Barber Beefcake or Rowdy Roddy Piper or Ric Flair, I don’t care. Let alone Linda McMahon. Take off the beer goggles. Sober up a bit. You’re not gonna like it when you wake up in the morning laying next to this guy.”

In his melodramatic, I-might-be-willing-to-cry-for-my-country voice, Beck brought up Benjamin Franklin’s famous quote in which, when asked what kind of country America was to be, he replied, “A republic, if you can keep it.” Beck let out a hammy sigh. "This is the time America decides if we keep the Republic or not.”
