Does Carl Paladino Fit Bill O’Reilly’s Definition Of “Loon?”
Reported by Priscilla - October 12, 2010 -
In attacking Christiane Amanpour’s not getting all up in the face of a radical Muslim cleric during a discussion about Islamophobia, Bill O’Reilly said that if he had been Amanpour, he would have laughed at the guy and called him a loon. I don’t know if Bill will be doing an more interviews with Carl Paladino, the Republican candidate for NY governor; but if he does I certainly expect him to ask teabagging Carl about his recent remarks which, according to Steve Doocy, "some people think are anti-gay." (Ya think!?) And if Carl responds in the same way that he did with Brian Kilmeade and Steve Doocy, I would hope that Bill would guffaw loudly and call him a “loon.”
Using Bill’s recommended interviewing technique, Kilmeade and Doocy should have laughed at Paladino’s seeming contradictions. Immediately after the video of Paladino’s comment about how he doesn’t want young people being “brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally and successful option,” Carl said that he had “no reservations about homosexuality” because he knows “the difficulties.” He added that his nephew and employees are gay. Shouldn’t that have been a “stop right there before we go any further moment” with a question about whether he thinks his nephew and employees lives are as “valid” and “successful” as heterosexuals. When he referenced discrimination against gays, shouldn’t somebody have said that discrimination comes from a world view that says that homosexuality isn’t “valid?” When he said that he does feel that kids shouldn’t be “brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is OK,” shouldn’t somebody have asked him if his nephew and employees had been “brainwashed.” When he remarked that the discrimination is terrible, shouldn’t somebody have said, once again, that discrimination comes from a position that homosexuality isn’t OK? That would have been a good opportunity to mention that gay youth commit suicide because they are given messages from their family, their church, and their peers that they’re not OK! I mean, really, there were so many WTF moments in that interview; but Kilmeade and Doocy were being polite and didn’t press Paladino on the apparent contradictions. If I had been moderator, I definitely would have asked him if those gay parade bumping and grinding “Speedos” were a turn on but that’s just me….
