In Albuquerque, NM, Michael Steele Says He’s In Arizona
Reported by Ellen - October 2, 2010 -
Michael Steele visited Greta Van Susteren’s On The Record last night (10/1/10) from the Albuquerque stop of his “Fire Nancy Pelosi” bus tour. As Van Susteren knew and most Americans probably know, Albuquerque is in New Mexico. But Steele twice said he was in Arizona. I’d be willing to cut the guy a break and say that he’s probably fatigued and a bit befuddled from traveling. But considering that Bill O’Reilly made fun of Al Franken as a pinhead that same night for wrongly saying Sen. Tom Udall was from Utah, instead of New Mexico, I couldn’t let the error go unmentioned.
Steele first made the error at about 1:20 in the first video below. Discussing some protesters who had showed up at one of his stops, Steele said, “The crowd was small and those who are looking for freedom and a different direction, who are supporting candidates like Jon Barela (a Congressional candidate in NM) here in Arizona, they turned out in big numbers.
Later, at about 5:07 in the interview, as Van Susteren challenged Steele to explain why voters should believe Republican lawmakers will stick to their principles after letting down their constituency during the George W. Bush years, Steele said, “I think… when you’re looking at the leadership that’s emerging, whether it’s, you know, Joe Miller or Christine O’Donnell or Jon Barela or Martinez, Susana Martinez (Republican gubernatorial candidate in NM), here in Arizona…”
Earlier in the evening, during the Pinheads and Patriots segment of The O’Reilly Factor, Bill O’Reilly was contemptuous of a similar error by Senator (O'Reilly said it's still tough to call him that) Al Franken. During some proceedings on the Senate floor, Franken referred to Sen. Tom Udall as “Senator from Utah.”
When Udall corrected him, Franken said, “Oh, God, I’m sorry.”
Somebody was chuckling off camera.
O’Reilly groaned with disgust. “Pinhead? Of course.”
