Mike Huckabee Hearts Carl Paladino
Reported by Ellen - October 1, 2010 -
Never mind that New York gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino has a taste for racist emails, a desire to put welfare recipients into prison dorms and teach them “personal hygiene… the personal things they don't get when they come from dysfunctional homes.” And never mind that he recently threatened to “take out” a New York Post reporter. Or maybe that's the appeal for Mike Huckabee. After watching the video of Paladino threatening the reporter, Huckabee declared that Carl Paladino is Mike Huckabee's kind of guy!
While on the Hannity show last night (9/30/10), Huckabee and Sean Hannity discussed the viral video of Carl Paladino’s angry confrontation with New York Post reporter Fred Dicker. It’s hard to make sense of the he said/he said but Paladino attacked the Post reporter for trying to photograph his 10 year-old daughter at home (The Post denies that) and also accused Dicker of being a “bird dog” for Paladino’s opponent, Democrat Andrew Cuomo. It started when Dicker asked for evidence to back up allegations that Cuomo had had extramarital affairs.
Paladino told Dicker, “You send another goon to my daughter’s house and I’ll take you out, buddy.”
I don’t know about you but that’s the kind of remark that would make me run from a politician. But not former pastor Huckabee!
After Hannity played the video, Huckabee said, “I’ve never met Carl Paladino but I’ll be honest with you, Sean, I’m getting where I really like this guy.”
Huckabee added, “I like him (Paladino) because he just – he says all this stuff that I always wanted to say but never could get away with.”
So what is it you wanted to say but “never could get away with,” Mr. Huckabee?
That you’ll “take out” someone you’re angry at?
That you'll send welfare recipients to prison dorms so they can learn "personal hygiene... the personal things they don't get when they come from dysfunctional homes?"
Bragging about attacks on ethnic groups, saying, “I don't care if they're a Dago or a Polack?”
Sending around an email titled, “Obama Inauguration Rehearsal,” with a video showing a dancing African tribesman?
Or would you love to send your pals an email saying, “Proof the Irish discovered Africa" with a video of monkeys doing an Irish dance?
By the way, Paladino has changed his tune and now says he never accused Cuomo of having extramarital affairs but was only complaining about the ceaseless questions from reporters about his own extramarital relations.
Rachel Maddow's excellent distillation of Paladino's record is the second video below.
