Bill O’Reilly’s Epiphany or Hypocrisy?

Reported by Priscilla - October 1, 2010 -

Did Bill O’Reilly have a “road to Damascus” moment which caused him to embrace Jesus’ message of peace – or is he on some really good “meds?” O’Reilly’s recent conversation with Bill Maher revealed a mellow side of the guy who used to scream “shut up” at guests with whom he disagreed. But now he's preaching a message of tolerance? Too strange!

Bill Maher, pointed out the violence of the Old Testament. O’Reilly responded that it was allegorical (Uh, Glenn Beck’s fundamentalist pals wouldn’t agree with that) and that, as a Christian, he follows the New Testament. When Bill Maher said that Christians “want to get behind the happy half of the Bible” (New Testament), the new O'Reilly said “maybe that’s the love half of the Bible that teaches you to love your neighbor as yourself.” (Obviously a teaching that O’Reilly has ignored?!). Gangster of love, O’Reilly said he didn’t see “the down side of that” and added (please put your beverage down before continuing) “what I believe in is love your neighbor as yourself” (He’s got to be high?!) “and don’t call them stupid because they don’t agree with you politically.” Excuse me??? Helooo??? Is this the same Bill O’Reilly whose phrase “liberal loons” is part of his lexicon? Is this the same Bill O’Reilly who categorizes his political enemies as “pinheads?” Is this the same Bill O’Reilly who not just mocks – but vilifies those who say “Happy Holidays?” It got even more bizarre when O’Reilly said that “there doesn’t seem to be a downside to being like Jesus.” (Something we can’t accuse O’Reilly of!) He then said that “if Jesus were in charge of the world, we’d all be in a better place.” When Maher mocked the miracle of the loaves and fishes, O’Reilly said that he “was free to believe what he wanted to believe.” O’Reilly then accused Maher of “mocking people who have sincere beliefs…and try to make them look stupid, it’s not noble…” Is this the same Bill O’Reilly who referred to Dr. Michael Newdow, who challenged the phrase “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, as a “nut?” But whatever. Let’s hope that O’Reilly chides Ann Coulter when she mocks those who hold different religious and political beliefs. Let's hope that O’Reilly has seen the light and that he can meet his own standards for “nobility” in following Jesus’ teaching about “loving” his neighbors – even if they are “liberal loons!”
