Fox News Military Analyst Tom McInerney Is A Birther

Reported by Ellen - September 2, 2010 -

Fox News military analyst retired Lieutenant General Tom McInerney is reportedly a serious man. He's a West Point graduate who ran the Alaskan air command during the Exxon Valdez disaster. But he seems to have gone over the edge in retirement. In January, in the wake of the Christmas “underpants” bomber, he called for strip searching every “18-28 year old Muslim man” who wants to get on an airplane. McInerney told Fox News' astonished and dismayed Julie Banderas, “If we don’t do that, tbere’s a very high probability that we’re gonna lose an airliner.” Now McInerney has come out loud and proud as a birther.

As Huffington Post reports (H/T Democratic Underground), McInerney signed an affidavit in support of Lt. Col. Terry Lakin, a soldier refusing to deploy to Afghanistan because he doesn’t believe President Obama is a natural-born citizen and thus eligible to be president.

McInerney stated in support of Lakin:

For the foregoing reasons, it is my opinion that LTC Lakin's request for discovery relating to the President's birth record in Hawaii is absolutely essential to determining not merely his guilt or innocence but to reassuring all military personnel once and for all for this President whether his service as Commander in Chief is Constitutionally proper. He is the one single person in the Chain of Command that the Constitution demands proof of natural born citizenship. This determination is fundamental to our Republic, where civilian control over the military is the rule. According to the Constitution, the Commander is Chief must now, in the face of serious -- and widely-held -- concerns that he is ineligible, either voluntarily establish his eligibility by authorizing release of his birth records or this court must authorize their discovery. The invasion of his privacy is utterly trivial compared to the issues at stake here. Our military MUST have confidence their Commander in Chief lawfully holds his office and absent which confidence grievous consequences may ensue.

You may recall that just two nights ago on Hannity, Sean Hannity accused President Obama of obsessing about his birth certificate and Sarah Palin sneered that the media should have demanded to know what he was insinuating when he said the new media climate churns out so much misinformation, "I can’t spend all my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead.”

Something tells me neither will demand the same kind of scrutiny of McInerney.
