Even O’Reilly’s News Quiz Fear Mongers About The Black Panthers

Reported by Ellen - July 9, 2010 -

How obsessed is Fox News with using the New Black Panthers case to turn Attorney General Eric Holder and President Barack Obama into this year’s ACORN? So much so that they worked the case into The O’Reilly Factor’s Great American News Quiz section. O'Reilly also worked in a little extra fear mongering by misleadingly linking the New Black Panther Party to the original Black Panthers and suggesting that the Department of Justice has undermined national security with its decision to drop a case of voter intimidation against the New Black Panther Party.

On last night’s O’Reilly Factor (7/8/10), Question No. 2 in the quiz began, “Former Department of Justice official J. Christian Adams testified this week about the DOJ dropping the Black Panther case.” Bill O’Reilly paused in his reading of the question to show a clip of Adams race-baiting saying, “I was told, by voting section management, that cases are not going to be brought against black defendants on (sic) the benefit of white victims.”

Having played that inflammatory little soundbite that had nothing to do with the question that followed, O’Reilly continued, “In the 1960’s, what former government official, during the 60’s, considered the Black Panther movement in America, quote, the greatest threat to the internal security of the country?”

I’ll let you guess the answer.

What O’Reilly neglected to tell his audience is that the New Black Panther Party, and the case involving them that Fox has fixated on, has nothing to do with the original Black Panthers of the 60’s. In fact, the original Black Panthers have denounced the NBPP. But by “asking” this question, O’Reilly neatly put in his viewers’ minds, not only a reminder of Adams’ unverified accusations but that the “perps” being let go might be “the greatest threat to the internal security of the country.”
