Fiorina Willing To Apologize To Hannity, Not Boxer

Reported by Ellen - June 13, 2010 -

GOP Senate candidate Carly Fiorina appeared on Fox News Sunday today. Not surprisingly, host Chris Wallace asked her about her catty remarks about opponent Barbara Boxer’s hair – and overlooked Fiorina's disparagement of Fox’s own Sean Hannity. Fiorina said she regretted her comments. But despite having apologized to Hannity, Fiorina now refused to apologize to Boxer. Stay classy, Carly!

Wallace began the interview by saying, “Let’s start with the hair comment because that’s what everybody is talking about.” He quoted Fiorina saying, “What is that hair? So yesterday,” on an open mic.

Fiorina told him, “I regret this whole situation. I gave people the opportunity to talk about something petty and superficial. And this is a very serious election year about serious issues.”

Wallace said he’d “get to” those serious issues later. But first, he asked, “Have you called Senator Boxer to apologize and say, ‘Let’s not talk about petty and superficial things?’”

No, Fiorina obviously had not and had no plans to do so in the future. She answered, “You know, what I think I owe the voters is a commitment to stay focused on facts, on issues, and on the things that really matter. And I will keep that commitment to the voters." Well, except when she thinks she's speaking off mic.

But Fiorina was more than willing to focus on those “petty and superficial” matters on the air when she apologized publicly and privately to Hannity. On Friday night (6/11/10), Fiorina sucked up to him on his show about her remarks. She said, “You’re a tough interview, Sean. That’s your job… It’s more to your credit… And that’s why I called on Wednesday, to say I was sorry. Because – and I’ll say that to your audience, this was not a insult to you at all, in fact it was a compliment.”
