Unbalanced Line Up On Fox News Sunday To Discuss Stripping Citizens Of Miranda And Other Rights
Reported by Ellen - May 9, 2010 -
Fox News Sunday has the kind of "balance" I'm accustomed to seeing on Sean Hannity's "Great American Panel:" One pro-Obama spokesperson and two anti's. Senior White House counterterrorism adviser John Brennan will be "balanced" by Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., and Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y. Lieberman, who campaigned for Sen. John McCain, is right up there with "former Clinton advisor" Dick Morris as one of Fox News' favorite "Democrats."
Sure enough, Lieberman plans to introduce a bill which, as Politico describes it, is "a work-around on the whole Miranda rights debate for U.S. citizens accused of terrorism: Strip their citizenship and ship them to Guantanamo."
The same Politico article notes that King asked, "Did they Mirandize him? I know he’s an American citizen, but still."
Don't get me wrong. It's completely appropriate for Fox News to interview Lieberman. But don't pair him up with a guy like Rep. King - who probably keeps a hotline on a bedside table so as to be alerted to any opportunity to make partisan hay out of Homeland Security or other issues - and call that balanced.
