Fox’s Peter Johnson Jr. Testifies For Franklin Graham – A Victim Of Obama’s Outreach To Muslims!

Reported by Priscilla - April 22, 2010 -

In my earlier thread, I reported on good Christian Gretchen Carlson’s validation of Franklin Graham’s anti Islamic sermonette. Later, in the show that gives you your daily dose of Christian spirit, Fox legal beagle, Peter Johnson provided more validation for Graham. Peter Johnson is obviously a member of the Christian right choir on Fox & Friends as he, earlier this year, articulated an anti choice sentiment in his bizarre statement that Senator Ben Nelson’s obstruction of health care reform, over abortion, was praiseworthy because Nelson knew the real meaning of Christmas was that you don’t “destroy babies.” And now, as a good Christian soldier, he’s defending the offensive “Islam is evil” rhetoric of evangelist Franklin Graham whose reconsideration as Pentagon speaker on National Prayer Day shows that, according to Pete, he is the victim of pro-Islamic sentiment in the White House. It’s ironic, don’t ya think, how Fox & Friends is always whining about how “easy” it is to target Christians – yet, they really don’t have a problem targeting Islam. And as we saw with their coverage of Rev. Wright, not all Christian pastors are created equal.

Update: The AP reports that Franklin Graham's invitation to speak at the Pentagon has been rescinded. "Army spokesman Col. Tom Collins said Graham's remarks were "not appropriate. We're an all-inclusive militaryWe honor all faiths. ... Our message to our service and civilian work force is about the need for diversity and appreciation of all faiths." One assumes that Fox will spin this as the Army bowing to political correctness because of pressure from those evil "Moooslims."

Former Miss America and good Christian, Gretchen Carlson needed to reinforce the message that poor Franklin Graham is being targeted by evil libruls while adding a new conspiratorial angle that this persecution of Graham is happening because of Obama who all good Christians know is a secret Muslim. While she spoke the chyron read: “W.H. Courting Muslims? Obama Admin Approach To Arab Americans.” Gretch had her snit on when she said that the “military invited Franklin Graham to speak at the Pentagon on National Prayer Day; but one group is demanding the appearance be cancelled.” (Oh, the horror, the horror!) She added that “they say that his past description of Islam is evil is offensive to Muslims.” (No, shit, Sherlock). She played her “exclusive” interview with Graham. (Actually Graham did most of the talking). As Franklin’s proselytizing was shown (He “speaks out” for women) the Obama admin chyron was run. Enter stage far right Fox legal analyst Peter Johnson. Gretch, rather excited, referenced the “big controversy” about Graham’s comments he made after 9-11. (Yo, Gretch, he made them earlier this morning! Whassup, weren’t you listening?) Johnson said that the group “dislikes evangelical Christians involvement with the military.” (Yo, Pete, what they dislike is the harassment of non Christian soldiers by evangelical officers – ongoing harassment as detailed in “Jesus Killed Mohammed, The Crusade For a Christian Military” in Harper’s Magazine.) Ready for Johnson’s money quote – here it is: “Are we going to throw Franklin Graham under the bus in order to the White House’s courting of the Muslim community as detailed in the NY Times.” Johnson said that Franklin’s comments were overblown because “he says he loves the Muslim people.” (Yo, Pete, earlier this morning he talked about how the Muslim people should accept Jesus because their religion enslaves them.) Apropos of nothing, he referenced Graham’s son's military service. Johnson described Graham as a preacher who wants to proselytize the world and asked “what are we saying about ourselves that we are so self condemnatory of who we are and we are in a war” (Yo, Pete, mainstream Christian clergy, who speak to military groups, aren’t out to convert the world to Christianity and what does being “in a war” have to do with it?)

Carlson did her perfunctory “it’s just one person who complains” BS. As in the Fox & Friends defense of bible verses on army rifle sights, there was no discussion of the Christian evangelical proselytizing documented by the Military Religious Freedom Foundation. Johnson said there is tremendous pressure to rescind the invitation. (No shit, Sherlock). Apropos of nothing, Johnson gratuitously attacked Obama’s envoy to the Organization of the Islamic Conference who "disparaged our prosecution efforts here in the United States post-9-11." Apropos of nothing, he then ranted about military chaplains “who have died in battle. They take an approach that’s for our troops and that’s for our national purpose." (WTF???) Johnson said that although Graham’s language was “probably” overblown but after 9-11, “a lot of folks were making those statements.” He said "It doesn't make it right, it doesn't make it wrong. He is a human, he may have made a mistake, but do we condemn him now because he's a Christian preacher?"

Comment: Sorry Pete. Graham’s comments are wrong. Just because he’s a Christian preacher doesn’t give him a free pass. This morning he said that Muslims don’t have to die in a car bomb, in addition to a lot of other offensive and anti-Islamic garbage. Fox’s double standard regarding the inflammatory rhetoric of another Christian preacher, Jeremiah Wright, is astounding. That Fox “News” aids and abets this bigotry towards Islam is a true testament to what Fox is all about. Praise Jesus?
