Memo To NewsBusters: Fox News/Fox Entertainment Owned By Same Parent Company

Reported by Priscilla - February 18, 2010 -

As staunch conservatives who defend truth, justice, and the American right wing way, Brent Bozell’s NewsBusters acolytes also defend Sarah Palin from those who dare to criticize this embodiment of virtuous conservative womanhood. Palin is now pissed at Fox Entertainment’s “The Family Guy” (a perennial outrage of NewsBusters) because, she claims, they mocked her son who has Down syndrome. MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan, in reporting her reaction to the Fox Entertainment comedy (an equal opportunity mocker) said that "If Palin really wanted to make a statement, she would reject her paycheck from Fox and remove herself from the network, wouldn't she?" In responding to this example of “liberal bias" and a charge that Palin might be a "hypocrite," NewsBuster Kyle Drennen made a statement that is, at best, uninformed – and at worst, totally delusional: Of course, Fox News has no connection to the Fox broadcast channel or any of its entertainment programming.” As a Congressman from Massachusetts once said, “What planet are you from?”

So Fox News has “no connection” to other media outlets owned by Rupert Murdoch. WTF?! Fox News and Fox Broadcasting Company are both owned by Murdoch’s News Corp. Surely, unless Mr. Drennen has been living under a rock for the last decade, he should know that. (Silly me, I thought NewsBusters writers were just so smart – Jim Pinkerton thinks so!) They do seem to know that MSNBC and CNBC are owned by General Electric, so you’d think that if they grasped that concept, they would understand about the Fox News/Fox Entertainment/News Corps connection. NewsBusters Jeff Poor wrote a thread about how the noble Bill O’Reilly had called out GE which is “using its media arm, NBC Universal to promote President Barack Obama's so-called progressive agenda for its own financial gain.” O’Reilly has also called out ”MSNBC’s Parent Company “ for “doing business with Iran,” so he gets it. NewsBusters Noel Sheppard did a thread about O’Reilly’s producer’s report on a meeting where GE shareholders were “very upset with MSNBC.” So, on some level, he understands about the interrelationships of media conglamerates.

Comment: So apparently, in the happy, conservative world of NewsBusters, “liberal” media outlets have parent companies which would make their “children,” (NBC, MSNBC, CNBC) “siblings.” Meanwhile, Fox News and Fox Broadcasting aren’t related at all despite sharing the same daddy. Who knew!
