Glenn Beck Wants You To Sacrifice Your Fortune For His War

Reported by Ellen - January 21, 2010 -

Yesterday (1/20/10), Glenn Beck took one step closer to calling for open warfare against progressives. Though he claimed to hope violence would not come, he repeatedly suggested it might and then reinforced the notion by using the term “war” throughout his opening monologue. He also repeatedly suggested that progressives were on the verge of violence, desperate to bring about their radical agenda and ready “to deal a final death blow to the Constitution if they can.” Citing Thomas Paine, Beck asked his viewers, “Are you willing to at least sacrifice your fortune and find your honor to defend freedoms that we’re losing?” He never mentioned sacrificing any of his fortune for the cause. With video.

Early in the segment, Beck said, in his sincere voice, that the “civil war” that is being touched off by Scott Brown’s win in Massachusetts “could, very shortly, get very ugly. So ugly, not only do I think the republic is in danger, I think that we need to pay real attention. I believe this president could be in real danger as well.”

Had Beck, the race-based hate monger, who regularly suggests Obama is evil incarnate, suddenly developed a concern for our president’s welfare? Not a chance. It was just a cover beneath which Beck could wage more McCarthyite attacks against the left while pretending to be non-partisan.

Beck started reasonably enough, by criticizing those on his own side who now want Scott Brown to run for president. “May I just say, ‘Cool it.’ Can we actually have people accomplish something first before they become president?” Good idea. Unless, of course, you’re Sarah Palin, whose half-term as governor of Alaska (before quitting in the middle) not only qualified her in Beck’s mind to be Vice President but maybe the messiah.

Unlike any other host on Fox that I saw, Beck also noted the creepiness of Brown’s pimping of his daughters from the victory podium. But just when I was thinking that maybe there was some shred of likeability in Beck, he launched into perhaps his most nauseating screeds yet.

First, Beck extolled the voters in Massachusetts who “know that our entire system is under attack.” “Now we have real hope because the tide is turning,” Beck exclaimed, standing next to his chalkboard. Then, with his usual disclaimer that “this is not about Democrats and Republicans,” he began his assault on progressives.

“It’s progressives vs. Democrats,” Beck said, referring to the civil war he predicted is about to hit the Democrats (while completely ignoring the civil war that hit the Republican party).

Beck continued, “This is a war that I think could become dangerous. Hopefully not. But I have to ask you this. I mean, doesn’t it feel like now is a time that the Obama regime is in collapse, and the most dangerous time in any regime, especially a revolutionary regime, is when it is on the verge of collapse… The Democratic Party is collapsing.”

According to Beck and his trusty chalkboard, with the “Tree of Revolution,” there are “two kinds of radicals” at play in the Obama administration. Or did he mean in the Democratic Party? Or progressives? Or all three? Beck, as usual, was more interested in showy displays of accusations, than explanations and evidence. There are the “peaceful take over by financial collapse” types, he said, like ACORN and then there are the “violent radicals” like Bill Ayers (never mind that Ayers has done nothing violent for about 40 years and is now a respected member of society). Then, even though Beck had promised a new show for the new year, he started another tired tirade against his usual scapegoats: Andy Stern, Rev. Wright, Anita Dunn. “So (Obama’s) surrounded by radicals,” Beck said, maybe for the zillionth time.

“Here’s why the republic is in danger and the president is in danger first, then the republic,” Beck sighed, making a show of how sorry he was to have to go on this rampage of hate. As best I understood his “theory,” Beck was saying that because Obama is going soft, “and is not going to collapse the system,” his radical associates are going to start to use violence to implement their radical agenda. “What makes you think… they won’t pick that up now?” Beck asked by way of “proof.” “They’ll do it their way,” Beck accused.

“Do you think it’s safe” to have these people “around the President of the United States?” Beck asked, once again using concern as camouflage for his viciousness.

Beck played a clip of leftie talk show host Mike Malloy saying that Beck, Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh were as complicit in the 9/11 attacks as the Saudi hijackers.

And that’s when I guessed that behind the harangue, Beck’s widdle feewings were bruised again. Apparently, he thinks he’s the only one who’s allowed to hate monger on the air. “As a guy who has to have unbelievable security because of people like that,” Beck said. You know, Blubber Boy, you might just need that security because of your own doings. When you play the provocateur, people tend to get provoked. Don’t come crying to me about the consequences of your fortune of hostility.

“Let me tell you what these people are capable of,” Beck continued. But first, he made an immediate digression about the White House gate crashers. “Why did the White House have the hearing today on the gate crashers?” he asked. “Do you think the White House or Congress had that story planted today, to have those hearings today to bury it in a busy news day?” Not that Beck felt the need to present any real evidence that that was the case. Beck often brags about having fact checkers on his staff, so how come nobody bothered to find out, as Media Matters did, that the hearings were scheduled in December, before anyone knew that the Massachusetts election would be an upset or that there would be a horrendous earthquake in Haiti? What makes you think a guy like Beck, Misinformer of 2009, wouldn’t just leave out facts that contradicted him?

“Please pray for our Secret Service. Make sure that they do their job. Please, dear God, protect our president,” Beck said. The sentiment was touching. I almost burst into tears.

As the segment began to wrap up, Beck ramped up his histrionic hate. “This war isn’t just about Democrats. It is the battle for the survival of the republic. And I hope you are ready to fight,” Beck said melodramatically. “Again, I ask you. Are these people (he pointed to the chalkboard with magnetic photos of Obama’s “radical associates”) like you? They are radical revolutionaries that believe in Mao.”

Beck added, “To you, a fight means educating people. It means mobilizing people to go out and vote…. But to these people? What does a fight mean to the uber left progressive? All bets are off. They will cheat, they will lie, they will steal. And they have in the past, blown things up if it helps them win.”

“It’s going to get tougher for us now,” Beck said. “Are you willing to sacrifice – not your life – I mean, maybe it comes down to that. God, I hope it doesn’t. But at least your fortune and your sacred honor? …Or will you sit idly by as things get tougher? …Our founders were willing to risk their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor. Are you willing to at least sacrifice your fortune and find your honor to defend freedoms that we’re losing? …Progressives have been patient for decades, creeping their way into the system under the cover of darkness. And this is their opportunity. They’re going to deal a final death blow to the Constitution if they can.”

All that talk about danger and sacrifice and Beck never once said what he plans to put on the line. He only whined about how much “unbelievable security” he's got.
