Glenn Beck Disgust: It's Not Just For Liberals Any More

It was only two weeks ago, while prognosticating about Glenn Beck’s upcoming year, that I said, “Not a week will go by that he doesn’t find a new target to smear with lies and distortions. As each new target is acquired this year, another organized group will begin to howl in righteous indignation. Eventually, Big Mouth Beck will say something so outrageous, so off-the-wall, so ridiculous that a “Dump Glenn Beck” movement will coalesce and pick up steam.”

I love to say “I told you so,” but the truth is I never saw THIS coming.

Oh, sure, many have compared Beck to Senator “Tailgunner Joe” McCarthy. Tim Harney, who feels the need to stress “keep in mind I am a staunch conservative,” reacts to The Beck’s crazy history lesson on Progressivism by saying:

This is my opinion of what was broadcast on the Glenn Beck show last night- modern day McCarthyism targeting not the "good" liberal, but the "bad cancer" of the democrat [sic] party, the progressive, who Glenn Beck says has hijacked and taken over the democrat [sic] party to the point of killing it. Is this modern day McCarthyism? I'm conservative and I think so.
Okay, so that’s just one guy, whose full bio reads, “Electrician and concerned about the direction our country is moving in,” on the relatively obscure OpEdNews, which invites submissions.

Maybe it doesn’t mean a thing. Or maybe it’s just the start of the “Dump Glenn Beck” movement I spoke of.

Yesterday (1/20/10) on his radio show, The Beckerhead said so many uncomplimentary things about Senator-elect Scott Brown, the new Teabagger King, that I can’t even bother to list them all. Among the best was, “I want a chastity belt on this man, I want his every move watched in Washington. I don’t trust this guy. No, I’m just telling you. … This one could end with a dead intern. This one could end with a dead intern.”

The shit’s already hitting the fan.

The web site “Race 4 2012” (oddly enough, found in the innertubes at race42008.com), seems like a very professional political website, with some money behind it. The mission statement says:

Race 4 2012 will be devoted to covering what will be the most exciting political race of a generation.

We are a group blog composed of several writers, each with their own distinct views and preferences regarding 2012. We are a partisan site as we will covering [sic] the 2012 race from a conservative viewpoint. Race 4 2012 does not endorse any particular candidate for the 2012 Republican nomination for President.

So, you might be shocked to find the headline Glenn Beck Jumps The Shark by author Max Twain, who has been a keen and insightful (my words) observer of American politics “since the 2000 Florida recount and particularly the September 11th attacks.” (His words.)

While Twain didn’t seem to think the “dead intern” comment worthy of mention, he did take issue with Beck’s other comments (in the clip above) concerning the Senator-elect pimping his daughters on Election Night. Defending Brown as a teasing Dad, Twain went on to say:

But since Glenn wants to talk about fathers and daughters and stand on his soap box and preach, then I’m afraid it’s time to knock him off that box. Beck is the LAST person who should be giving any father anywhere grief on how they treat their children. Perhaps he is jealous of Brown’s relationship with his daughters, because while Beck’s daughters Hannah and Mary (who has cerebral palsy) were growing up he was far too drunk and drug addicted to joke with them the way Scott is able to do with his children. A drug addict and an alcoholic first, a father second was the story of Glenn Beck’s life; it’s who he was as his daughters grew up and it’s who he was when his first wife left him.
If that’s not enough Twain ends with, “So I and conservatives everywhere call on Glenn Beck to apologize to Senator-elect Scott Brown and his family. We expect this kind of behavior from Olbermann, but we expect better from you. Shape up or ship out.”

More predictions: Beckster will apologize, with a non-apology apology, and say he was joking. The right wing, who have forgiven him for everything else so far, will accept the apology, and life will go on. But how many more times will he get away with this kind of schtick?

There’s 49 weeks left in the year. Plenty of time for Glenn Beck to piss off more people.

With all my love,

Aunty Em
