Greta Van Susteren Doesn’t Question Palin’s Dubious Explanation For Quitting Her Vacation

Reported by Ellen - December 18, 2009 -

Sarah Palin bailed on her own vacation! And in an unbelievable explanation reminiscent of her excuse for bailing on her last job, it was all out of consideration for others. It had nothing, nothing, to do with the fact that she had been caught by TMZ wearing a 2008 campaign visor with the name “McCain” blacked out on it. And the blacking out had nothing, nothing to do with her great esteem for John McCain. As Palin "explained" it, "In an attempt to 'go incognito,' I Sharpied the logo out on my sun visor so photographers would be less likely to recognize me and bother my kids or other vacationers… Todd and I have since cut our vacation short because the incognito attempts didn't work and fellow vacationers were bothered for the two days we spent in the sun.” As Laffy at Political Carnival noted, Palin could have just worn a different visor or put on a hat. But on last night’s (12/17/09) On The Record, Greta Van Susteren seemed to find nothing at all odd about Palin’s story. Van Susteren set the tone by introducing her recap with a cheery, “Aloha, Governor Palin!” With video.

Here’s what Van Susteren said.

“Greta Governor Palin and her family cut their vacation short. Why? Well, even in Hawaii, Governor Palin is grabbing headlines. TMZ caught the governor on camera wearing a visor from the 2008 campaign with Senator McCain’s name blacked out. Governor Palin says she meant no disrespect. She was just trying to be incognito. Now apparently, that didn’t work. The governor said she was drawing too much attention on the island and they cut the trip short.”

Can you imagine if Al Gore had quit his vacation after being caught wearing a visor with Joe Lieberman’s name blacked out?
