Beck’s Latest Target: Liberal Blogger Jane Hamsher Of FireDogLake.com

Reported by Ellen - December 16, 2009 -

Perhaps tiring of his attacks on Robert Creamer, Glenn Beck set his sights on a new target, Jane Hamsher, of FireDogLake.com. Hamsher’s offense? A campaign to get the Susan G. Komen Foundation, which finances breast cancer research, to drop Hadassah Lieberman, wife of Senator Joe Lieberman, as “Global Ambassador” for the organization because her ties to the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries are a conflict of interest. Beck not only distorted Hamsher’s efforts but he conveniently overlooked the far more personal smears of Michelle Obama right there on Fox News. With video.

Beck said it was “absolutely shocking” that “a very powerful activist on the left… target(ed) his wife for her …breast cancer research projects.” In fact, Hamsher did not target Lieberman for her “breast cancer research projects” but for being in the pocket of the insurance-pharmaceutical-lobbying complex.

“She targeted the wife. Now you’re going after the family,” Beck complained. “But (Hamsher) doesn’t really have that many scruples anyway.”

So where were Beck’s scruples when Fox News attacked Michelle Obama this past year? For example:

in January, 2009, Juan Williams said on The O'Reilly Factor, "Michelle Obama, you know she's got the Stokely Carmichael in a designer dress thing going. ...Her instinct is to start with this 'Blame America,' you know, 'I'm the victim.' If that stuff starts to come out, people will go bananas and she'll go from being the new Jackie O. to being something of an albatross.”

Last July, Sean Hannity attacked her for having an expensive purse and, in the same segment, Fox News' Kimberly Guilfoyle sneered about Obama's "yoga arms." Hannity and the other guest, S.E. Cupp complained that Obama was not grateful enough to America for her position.

And who can forget GretaWire's recent post alleging that she's a transvestite?

There were so many attacks on Michelle Obama during the campaign that Brave New Films made an entire video about them (second video below).

Unlike Hamsher's efforts involving Hadassah Lieberman, the Fox News smears against Michelle Obama were personal and had nothing to do with her professional record. Maybe I missed it, but I didn't hear a peep out of Beck condemning any of those attacks.
