Hannity Continues Bogus "NAMBLA" Smears Against “Safe Schools Czar” Kevin Jennings

Reported by Ellen - October 8, 2009 -

Now that his “statutory-rape encourager” smear against President Obama’s “safe schools czar” Kevin Jennings has fizzled, Sean Hannity has doubled down on the NAMBLA smear. As I posted last night, Hannity has put forth nothing to indicate that Jennings actually supports NAMBLA. Instead, he crafted a guilt-by-association smear by dredging up some quote in which Jennings expressed his admiration for respected gay rights activist Harry Hay. Because Hay also supported NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association), that was enough evidence for Hannity to accuse Jennings of supporting NAMBLA. As I wrote in my last post about Jennings, that makes about as much sense as accusing people who admire JFK of supporting adultery. But to add weight to the flimsy smear, last night (10/7/09), Hannity called in a former FBI agent, Bob Hamer, to demonize NAMBLA further. As Hamer offered the salacious details of his infiltration of NAMBLA, neither he nor Hannity ever once connected Jennings to NAMBLA, other than to assert that Jennings “had to have known” of Hay’s support for NAMBLA. But throughout much of the discussion, a large banner on the screen read, “New information emerges about Jennings support for NAMBLA.” Hannity followed up with two more interviews attacking Jennings. One with Rep. Steve King (in the same segment as Hamer) and one with Karl Rove. Hannity also came back to it in his “Great American Panel” segment. With video.

Media Matters has more on the segment with Rove.
