Huckabee Fleeces His Sheep - Petition URL Redirects to Huck PAC

Reported by Alex - October 5, 2009 -

For the past two weekends Mike Huckabee has been directing his Sunday evening viewers to a site called balancecutsave.com (no embedded link for you, Huckster) to sign a petition calling for Congress to balance the budget by cutting spending. However, the URL he provdes redirects to huckpac.com ...

...where you can sign the petition ... and receive "updates" on "this and other important campaigns" - oh yeah, like Huckabee for King of the Theocracy of America President ...and buy a bumper sticker for a contribution to his PAC of $15 or more...

From Media Matters:

On two Fox News shows, Fox host Mike Huckabee directed viewers to "go to balancecutsave.com," urging them to sign a petition telling Congress to "balance the budget," "cut their spending," and "save American families"; however, balancecutsave.com redirects visitors to a web page soliciting donations for Huckabee's political action committee, which financially supports Republican candidates and also pays Huckabee's daughter's salary. Huckabee is the latest Fox News personality to ask viewers to visit PAC websites without disclosing the website's nature or whether they stand to gain financially from viewers' donations.

Oh, and he won't share your information with any unaffiliated groups. Is the Republican National Committee "unaffiliated" or not? How about Phylllis Schlafly's Eagle Forum, who hosted the recent "How to Take Back America" conference at which Huckster was the closing speaker? Are abstinence and anti-abortion groups "unafilliated"?

When I went to the site I entered a fake name ("Ignore Me") and fake email address, and this message:

Please ignore this signature - I am only testing to see what happens after I sign, since Huckabee has duped his Fox viewers into going to his PAC after telling them they were going to balancecutsave.com. Personally, I think Huckabee is full of s***, and I suspect this petition is really a way for him to gather email addresses.

I think I may go back and enter a real (and disposable) email addy to see what sort of crapola lands in my inbox from HuckPac and his buddies.

Crooks and Liars has the story and video. H/T Hula.
