Glenn Beck Pretends To Throw A Frog Into Boiling Water

Reported by Ellen - September 24, 2009 -

During his television show yesterday (9/23/09), Glenn Beck pretended to throw a frog into boiling water as part of a theatrical stunt designed to answer his critics who were unhappy with his statement to Katie Couric that John McCain may have been “worse for the country” than Barack Obama. That Beck would even entertain such a stunt was distasteful enough. But the fact that he swore in his most sincere voice that he thought a frog would jump out showed just what kind of disingenuous huckster Beck really is. With video.

Beck likened the comparison of Obama to McCain to that old adage about a frog in boiling water: If you throw a frog in boiling water, he’ll jump out (supposedly) but if you put a frog in a pot of water at room temperature and slowly raise the temperature, it will boil to death. So to illustrate how Obama has “galvanized” the country to jump out of his pot, Beck had a pot of boiling water on his desk. He reached into a box of live frogs and seemed to pull one out. I don’t believe Beck actually pulled out a frog, though he tried to make it look as though he had.

“You have the little frogs here,” Beck said, cupping his hands, presumably around a frog. "Barack Obama has galvanized the country… He’s forced us to think and get involved. We have not, like John McCain, been boiled slowly. We have been tossed quickly into boiling water. And don’t forget what happens when you throw ‘em in!” He shook his hands and made a gesture as though he were tossing something in the water. I didn’t see anything fall in the pot, however.

Beck paused and theatrically peered into the pot, as though waiting for a frog to jump out. “OK, forget the frog,” he said. Then as he walked away from the pot, he turned back to look at it again, “I swear I thought they’d jump right out but they don’t,” Beck said, in a heartfelt manner. He continued, his voice growing excited now, “Forget about the Republicans because most of them are fake. Forget about the Democrats because most of them are fake. And forget about the frog because it was fake.”

And I’d say, “Forget about Beck because he is fake.”
