ACORN-Gotcha Gal, Hannah Giles, Gets Pass From Hannity On Her Lies, Dubious Claims And Discredited Video

Reported by Ellen - September 17, 2009 -

Despite the fact that Andrew Breitbart and young “investigator” Hannah Giles had been punked in their previous “undercover” expose of ACORN the night before, Breitbart and Giles were back on Hannity last night (9/16/09) with another gotcha video. There was no mention that Giles had failed to verify the outlandish and, as it turned out, made-up claim of ACORN worker Tresa Kaelke that she had killed her husband. In fact, Breitbart spoke of the "murder" as though it were true. As we previously posted, a local police report indicates otherwise. Furthermore, last night, Giles falsely told Hannity, who hinted he knew better, that in every visit to an ACORN office where Giles appeared, pretending to be a prostitute, the organization had been willing to assist her proposed illegal activities. UPDATED. With video

Last night, Breitbart and Giles brought a video purportedly of an ACORN worker in San Diego giving tips on smuggling people across the border and then supposedly propositioning Giles by asking what she charged. If you ask me, the guy knew she was a fake. Not only did he seem incredulous in the brief video shown but he was emphatic that he did not ask about her rates because he wanted to buy her services. I think he was suspicious. Giles’ less than impressive answer about her rates was not exactly convincing, either.

Nonetheless, Hannity said, “So he’s basically propositioning you.”

“Yeah, it was extremely awkward,” Giles said. Sure it was, because she was obviously flummoxed by the ACORN-worker’s question. Giles may be pretty to look at but she’s hardly a scintillating intellect. “And the whole time he was, you know, very weird about the way he dealt with me and stuff like that. And then, and, and, he kept looking at me and, you know, not even pay (sic) attention to James (O'Keefe, her gotcha filmmaker partner) and it was extremely uncomfortable.”

Giles continued, “And then there came a point and he was like, ‘So where are you located? And I was like, ‘San Diego.’ And he was, ‘No, no, but where.’ Like. And then he asked me, ‘How much do you charge?’”

“He hedged a little bit there,” Hannity noted. But loyal foot soldier that he is, he moved right along to praise her for her courage. “You’re 20 years old… that’s a dangerous position to put yourself in.” Sure, if you think ACORN workers are dangerous crooks it is. But if you ask me, the worker she was trying to entrap was the one in more peril.

Breitbart jumped in. As he did the night before when Hannity seemed to question the veracity of the claims about the video, Breitbart changed the subject. "This is the first time we’ve come to the border,” Breitbart added, apropos of nothing but suggesting there was extra perniciousness because of it. “(ACORN) seem(s) to be experts at facilitating crime and their knowledge of that crime and helping bring the underclass to, how to work the system as best they can.”

Hannity did not press the issue further about the so-called proposition.

Hannity later asked Giles, “Were there any cities you went to where you … didn’t get any videotape not worthy to air?”

Just as she did when Hannity asked her the night before if she had verified whether or not ACORN worker Kaelke had truly killed her husband, Giles evaded the question. “We’re airing it. It’s pretty worthy,” she said.

Hannity pressed. “In other words, you didn’t go into one office and they said, ‘We’re not gonna help you do anything like that.'”

“No,” Giles said in an innocent voice. But it’s almost certain she was lying.

Hannity repeated, “Every place you went they… helped you or were willing to help you, either not report you for an underage prostitution ring, evade taxes…”

Breitbart jumped in again. “It is interesting. There’s no places ACORN tried to state that, kicked them out based upon the premise that they were, that they were doing something nefarious.”

But the evidence indicates that at least one ACORN office kicked Giles and her partner out and then called the police. According to the Philadelphia Daily News:

When the phony pimp and prostitute tag team visited ACORN's local office, on Broad Street near Parrish, on July 24, they were apparently shown the door.

Philadelphia ACORN president Carol Hemingway said in a statement on Monday that "after causing a major disturbance, they were asked to leave the office, and a police report was filed."

Hemingway e-mailed copies of the incident report to the news media.

Furthermore, ACORN has stated that the filmmakers’ efforts failed at five ACORN offices, including Philadelphia and San Diego.

Breitbart and Giles said this was to be the last night of videos. They never showed one from Philadelphia.

Hannity undoubtedly knew these facts, or he should have, but he never brought them up for the “we report, you decide” network’s viewers.

Meanwhile, Giles once again revealed that her real goal was to “get” ACORN. “When we walked into the San Diego office, we were like, ‘Hey, they have a really big push for immigration. And I was like, we gotta, you know, let’s, let’s see if we can get them on this, too.”

Hannity went on to refer again to the discredited video of the night before. Conveniently overlooking her claim of homicide, Hannity said, “The woman (in the video) is explaining, basically, how they can facilitate this, not reporting this to the police.” He forgot to mention that the woman has said she did not believe the ruse and made up answers, a la Stephen Colbert, for fun, including the claim to have murdered her husband.

Hannity continued, "An underage, prostitution, child abuse ring in each city, almost every city, we have this come up."

Breitbart agreed, “Mmm-hmm.”

Wait a minute. Almost every city? Giles had just said it happened in every city she had visited.

Yet Breitbart had the nerve to attack the rest of the media for being too biased, claiming they had not jumped on the story because “it can’t find the angle that can get, extricate its friends.” Project much, Andrew?

"Objective" Breitbart discussed the Kaelke video as though it had not been discredited, saying it, along with the new San Diego video, brought "new crimes... to the fore."

Hannity went on to make the ridiculous claim that ACORN is “on schedule to get 8 ½ trillion dollars of stimulus money." No correction from either Breitbart or Giles.

Hannity concluded by saying that Giles and O’Keefe had exposed the media to be "shallow, inept, ineffective, biased." Hannity added, "and you probably have saved the country billions of dollars. Billions.”

Wasn’t it trillions just a few moments ago?

Update: A contact at ACORN confirmed my suspicion that the San Diego worker did not believe the ruse. According to ACORN, the man called the police as a result of Giles and O'Keefe's visit. But neither Fox, Hannity nor Breitbart seem to have done any investigation into that possibility.
